The acupoints of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian: Shaose (SI-1) is first located at the tip of the little finger. Qian Gu (SI-2), Hou Xi (SI-3), and Wang Gu (SI-4) are situated between the wrist and palm. Yang Gu (SI-5) is adjacent to Yang Lao (SI-6). Zhi Zheng (SI-7) is above Xiao Hai (SI-8), followed by Jian Zhen (SI-9). Naoshu (SI-10), Tianzong (SI-11), and Bingfeng (SI-12) are arranged in sequence. Qu Yuan (SI-13), Jianwaishu (SI-14), and Jianzhongshu (SI-15) follow. Tianchuang (SI-16) comes next, then Tianrong (SI-17). This meridian contains nineteen acupoints, including Quanliao (SI-18) and Tinggong (SI-19).
Shaose (SI-1) is at the outer lateral end of the little finger. Qian Gu (SI-2) is located on the lateral side anterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint crease. Hou Xi (SI-3) is at the apex of the transverse crease posterior to the joint. Wang Gu (SI-4) is in the depression anterior to the styloid process of the ulna. Yang Gu (SI-5) is in the depression below the styloid process of the ulna. Yang Lao (SI-6) is named so because it is one cun proximal to the dorsal wrist crease. Zhi Zheng (SI-7) is four cun superior along the lateral aspect. Xiao Hai (SI-8) is excellent at five fen medial to the olecranon. Jian Zhen (SI-9) is in the depression posterior to the glenoid cavity. Naoshu (SI-10) is examined in the depression between the humerus and scapula (the depression below the scapula when the arm is raised). Tianzong (SI-11) is in the depression below the scapular spine. Bingfeng (SI-12) is in the small hollow behind the acromion (a space appears when raising the shoulder). Qu Yuan (SI-13) is in the depression within the curved scapula at the center of the shoulder. Waishu (Jianwaishu, SI-14) follows from the upper border of the scapula, three cun from the spine (also known as Jianwaishu, located at the upper border of the scapula, three cun lateral to the spine). Zhongshu (Jianzhongshu, SI-15) is two cun lateral to the Dazhui (GV-14) point on the inner border of the scapula. Tianchuang (SI-16) is detailed in the depression where the carotid artery pulses anterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle and posterior to the angle of the mandible. Tianrong (SI-17) is posterior to the angle of the mandible below the ear. Quanliao (SI-18) is measured at the sharp bony edge below the zygomatic bone (in the depression at the lower margin of the zygomatic bone). Tinggong (SI-19) is at the pearl-like cartilage in the ear (the cartilage in the ear is as large as a red bean). These constitute the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian.
Note: [1] Shaose (SI-1) is located in the depression one fen distal to the corner of the nail on the radial side of the little finger.
[2] Moving upward from Shaose (SI-1), Qian Gu (SI-2) is in the depression anterior to the proximal interphalangeal joint on the radial side of the little finger.
[3] Moving upward from Qian Gu (SI-2), Hou Xi (SI-3) is in the depression at the apex of the transverse crease on the radial side, proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joint; take this point with the hand supinated and clenched into a fist.
[4] Moving upward from Hou Xi (SI-3), Wang Gu (SI-4) is in the depression in the gap below the prominent bone at the anterior aspect of the wrist on the radial side of the palm.
[5] Moving upward from Wang Gu (SI-4), Yang Gu (SI-5) is in the depression below the sharp bone of the wrist on the radial side of the palm.
[6] Moving upward from Yang Gu (SI-5), Yang Lao (SI-6) is in a depression approximately one cun proximal to the sharp bone of the wrist.
[7] Moving upward four cun along the lateral aspect from Yang Lao (SI-6), Zhi Zheng (SI-7) is located.
[8] Moving upward from Zhi Zheng (SI-7), Xiao Hai (SI-8) is in the depression five fen distal to the end of the elbow, on the lateral side of the large bone of the elbow; take this point with the elbow flexed and the hand directed toward the head.
[9] Moving upward from Xiao Hai (SI-8), Jian Zhen (SI-9) is in the depression posterior to the end of the shoulder, between the two joints of the large bone, below the curved scapula.
[10] Moving upward from Jian Zhen (SI-9) to the end of the shoulder, Naoshu (SI-10) is in the depression below the shoulder bone and above the upper border of the scapula; take this point with the arm raised.
[11] Moving upward from Naoshu (SI-10), Tianzong (SI-11) is in the depression below the shoulder bone.
[12] Moving upward from Tianzong (SI-11), Bingfeng (SI-12) is located on the small scapular bone of the shoulder, where a space appears upon raising the arm.
[13] Moving upward from Bingfeng (SI-12) to the center of the shoulder, Qu Yuan (SI-13) is in the depression of the curved scapula; tenderness upon palpation confirms the location.
[14] Moving upward from Qu Yuan (SI-13), Jianwaishu (SI-14) is in the depression three cun lateral to the spine at the upper border of the scapula.
[15] Moving upward from Jianwaishu (SI-14), Jianzhongshu (SI-15) is in the depression two cun lateral to the Dazhui (GV-14) point of the Governor Vessel, at the medial border of the scapula.
[16] Moving upward from Jianzhongshu (SI-15), Tianchuang (SI-16) is in the depression where the arterial pulse is felt anterior to the major tendon of the neck and posterior to the cheekbone.
[17] Moving upward from Tianchuang (SI-16), Tianrong (SI-17) is located posterior to the angle of the mandible below the ear.
[18] Moving upward from Tianrong (SI-17), Quanliao (SI-18) is in the depression at the end of the sharp bone below the lower margin of the zygomatic bone.
[19] Moving upward from Quanliao (SI-18) to the pearl-like structure in the ear, Tinggong (SI-19) is located (see Figure 55).
