**Cold with Fright:** When a child suffers from a cold and is suddenly startled by frightening events or strange sights, symptoms such as fright, timidity, and restless sleep may occur. These are accompanied by fever, irritability, and a bluish-red complexion. Treatment should first involve using *Shujie San* (Dispersion Decoction to relieve exterior pathogens) combined with *Liangjing Wan* (Cooling Fright Pill to clear heat and calm fright), supplemented by *Chaihu Wendan Tang* (Bupleurum and Pinellia Decoction to harmonize Shaoyang and regulate qi/phlegm), to achieve the effect of calming the mind and stabilizing the will, with miraculous efficacy.
[Note]
When a child has a cold where the exterior pathogen has not yet resolved, and is subsequently triggered by fright, symptoms such as fright, timidity, restless sleep, fever, irritability, and a bluish-red complexion appear. In treatment, *Shujie San* is used first to disperse the exterior pathogen, followed by *Liangjing Wan* to clear heat and settle fright. If the disease subsides but the child still feels frightened and cannot sleep, *Chaihu Wendan Tang* is appropriate for harmonization.
*(Shujie San)*
Ingredients: *Qianghuo* (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), *Suye* (Perillae Folium), *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix), *Zhike* fried with bran (Aurantii Fructus), *Jiegeng* (Platycodonis Radix), *Qianhu* (Peucedani Radix), *Chishao* (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), *Xingren* fried and peeled/pitted (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), *Jiangcan* fried (Bombyx Batryticatus), *Gancao* raw (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).

**General Overview of Plague Diseases:** The transmission and progression of plague diseases are similar to those of Shanghan (Cold Damage). Immediate onset after contracting cold is named Shanghan; contracting cold in winter and then being affected by wind in spring leads to Wenyi (Plague); contracting summer-heat in summer leads to Rebing (Heat Disease); if it spreads household by household among young and old, it is Tianxing Wenyi (Heavenly Epidemic), which is more severe. Abnormal climate conditions in the four seasons are called Shiqi (Seasonal Qi). One must clearly distinguish between Sha Zhen (Miasma and Rash) and Wenyi.
[Note]
The progression of plague diseases is no different from Shanghan. Some contract cold in winter and fall ill immediately, named Shanghan. Others contract cold in winter but do not fall ill immediately; the cold pathogen hides within the skin and muscles, lying dormant between Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) levels. In spring, re-exposure to spring wind causes it to erupt as Wenyi. In summer, re-exposure to summer-heat causes it to erupt as Rebing. If it transmits from house to house, affecting all ages, it is Tianxing Wenyi, with even greater harm. Alternatively, if spring and summer should be warm but are cold, or autumn and winter should be cool but are hot, this is referred to as abnormal Qi of the four seasons (Shiqi). Contracting disease through mutual infection follows the same treatment principles as Shanghan. Regarding cases involving eruption of macules, sand-rash, or rashes, the syndromes must be carefully distinguished; treatment methods are detailed later.
