In cases of diarrhea with a deep and slow pulse, where the patient's face shows slight redness, there is slight heat in the body, and diarrhea with undigested food occurs, there must be a sensation of mental confusion and dizziness (Yu Mao). The condition will resolve through sweating. The patient will necessarily have slightly cold extremities. The reason for this is that the face exhibits Dai Yang (floating yang), due to deficiency and cold in the lower jiao.

In cases of diarrhea accompanied by abdominal fullness and body pain, the interior should first be warmed, and then the exterior should be attacked. For warming the interior, Sini Tang (Four Reversal Decoction) is appropriate; for attacking the exterior, Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is appropriate.
[Note]
See "Shanghan Lun · Taiyin Chapter" for details; no further explanation is given here.
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 3 liang; Shaoyao (White Peony Root) 3 liang; Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried) 3 liang; Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) 3 liang; Dazao (Jujube) 12 pieces.
The above five ingredients are cut into small pieces and boiled in seven sheng of water over low heat until three sheng remain. The dregs are removed. One sheng is taken at a comfortable temperature. Shortly after taking the medicine, drink one sheng of hot thin porridge to assist the medicinal power. Cover with blankets for about the time it takes to cook a meal, aiming for a slight, uniform perspiration over the whole body, which is best. Do not allow sweat to pour out like water. If the disease resolves after one dose, stop taking the subsequent doses.

After diarrhea, if irritability increases and pressing on the epigastrium feels soft, this is termed Xu Fan (deficiency irritability), which is primarily treated with Zhizi Chi Tang (Gardenia and Fermented Soybean Decoction).

Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit) 14 pieces; Xiangchi (Prepared Fermented Soybean, wrapped in cotton cloth) 4 he.
The above two ingredients are boiled in four sheng of water. First, boil Zhizi until two and a half sheng remain. Then add Xiangchi and boil until one and a half sheng remain. Remove the dregs and divide into two doses. Take one dose warm. If vomiting occurs, stop taking the medicine.
