[Prescription Verse] Bear, tiger, and wolf bites causing sores: take Gegen Tang (Pueraria Decoction) internally and externally for washing; fumigate with burnt green cloth, wash with iron water, or chew and apply a solitary chestnut to the wound.
[Note] When bitten by bears, tigers, or wolves, resulting in skin and muscle ulcers, initially decoct Gegen Radix (Puerariae Radix) strongly, drink one to two bowls internally, and wash externally ten times daily; or boil edible raw iron for its flavor to wash. Additionally, tightly roll green cloth into a rope, ignite it, place it in a bamboo tube, and fumigate the sore to draw out toxic fluids. Subsequently, chew a solitary chestnut fresh and apply it to the wound for good effect.
[Prescription Verse] Horse bites damage muscles: chew chestnuts thoroughly and apply to the affected area. If toxic qi penetrates inward causing restlessness, vomiting, and chest oppression, quickly administer Machixian Tang (Portulaca Decoction).
[Note] For such injuries, apply chewed chestnuts. If toxic qi enters the interior causing restlessness, vomiting, and chest oppression, decoct Portulaca Herba (Portulacae Herba) and drink it for immediate effect. Externally, use horse whip handles to bind the hand, and burn the horse whip tassles until carbonized ("preserving nature"), grind into powder, mix with lard, and apply as a paste; both methods are effective.
[Prescription Verse] Mad dog bites carry the deepest toxicity: puncture to drain blood, suck and wash, moxibustion, and urine washing. Pull out any red hair at the vertex of the head; observe lifelong taboos for three years to ensure safety.
[Note] Dogs become mad due to toxicity in the five zang organs. Thus, even a light bite can cause severe injury, representing a condition with nine deaths for every one survival. Immediately after being bitten, puncture the site to release toxic blood, hold "jiang shui" (fermented grain liquid) in the mouth to suck and wash the wound. Alternatively, use cupping/suction methods to extract toxins, or wash with human urine, dry, then fill half a walnut shell with human feces, apply to the bite site, and perform moxibustion on top. Replace when the shell scorches and feces dry. Moxa until 100 cones, then apply Yuzhen San (Jade True Powder) mixed with saliva. Continue moxibustion the next day, gradually increasing to 300-500 cones. At the start of moxibustion, take Fuwei San (Rescue from Peril Powder) to expel evil matter and blood clots via urination. If toxic blood clots block the urethra causing dysuria resembling strangury, take Hupo Biyu San (Amber Jade Powder) to promote urination. If the victim has a single red hair at the vertex, pull it out immediately. Another method: grind fermented soybeans (Douchi) into powder, mix with sesame oil to form a thick paste, shape into pill-sized balls, and frequently rub over the bite site. Check the pill; if dog hairs appear fuzzy inside, it indicates toxin expulsion. Replace the pill and continue rubbing until no hairs appear; this is very effective. Lifelong taboos must be strictly observed: avoid dog meat, silkworm pupae, and adzuki beans forever. Within 100 days, avoid contact with hemp products and alcohol. Within three years, avoid all toxic foods and sexual intercourse. Almonds may be eaten regularly to prevent toxicity. If treatment is delayed and dog toxin enters the heart, causing delirium, abdominal distension, and foaming at the mouth, use powdered Tiger Head Bone, Tiger Tooth, and Tiger Tibia Bone, taken with wine (2 qian). If the patient becomes manic, barks like a dog, and shows white sclera, it is a adverse prognosis. Those who violate taboos throughout are incurable.
Formula: Fuwei San (Rescue from Peril Powder)
Composition: Mylabris (use quantity based on days since bite; e.g., 7 for 7 days, 10 for 10 days; remove wings and feet, stir-fry with glutinous rice, discard rice)
Talcum (water-triturated, 1 liang)
Realgar (1 qian)
Musk (2 fen)
Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian each time, mixed with warm wine. Non-drinkers should use rice soup.
[Prescription Verse] Fuwei San treats mad dog bites; Mylabris and glutinous rice are stir-fried together, added with Talcum, Realgar, and Musk, ground, and taken with wine to sweep away toxins.
Another Formula: Hupo Biyu San (Amber Jade Powder)
Composition: Talcum (6 liang)
Licorice Root (Gancao, 1 liang)
Amber (5 qian)
Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai, 8 fen)
Grind into fine powder. Take 3 qian each time, mixed with decoction of Juncus Arvensis (Dengxincao).
[Prescription Verse] Hupo Biyu San uses Liu Yi San as base, adding Qingdai and Amber ground finely; taken with Juncus Arvensis decoction, 3 qian per dose, regulating slipperiness and astringency to treat difficult urination.
Another Method: Suction Method for Mad Dog Bites
Composition: Use two sand-fired wine pots, fill more than half with burning wine. Heat one pot until boiling silently, pour out the wine, and immediately press onto the broken wound to suck out black bloody fluid; it falls off when full. Repeat with the second pot, alternating suction until complete, leading to immediate recovery.
Another Formula: Yuzhen San (See section on Tetanus/Wound Stiffness)
