[Upper Compilation External Treatment Methods - Explanation of Instruments]
[1] Bamboo mat refers to the cooling mats used in summer, cut to size according to the length and width of the affected area.
[2] Usage explanation:
<1> For any limb fracture, first use manual manipulation to reduce and fix it, then wrap it with cloth. Surround the outside of the cloth with a bamboo mat and tie it tightly to prevent misalignment or displacement of the bone fragments. This is a general-purpose instrument.
[Upper Compilation External Treatment Methods - Head and Face]
[1] The ear is the organ responsible for hearing. The tragus is named "Bi" (Shield), and the helix is named "Guo" (Wall).
[2] In cases where the ear is severed by a knife, knocked off by trauma, or detached at one end while adhering at the other:
<1> Internally use sealing medicine; externally apply Antiseptic and Pain-Relieving Powder (Xiaodu Dingtong San).
<2> Observe the direction of detachment behind the ear. Use a goose feather quill to clamp horizontally, then secure it vertically and horizontally with a bamboo clip. Ensure the two ears face each other when tying gently, or use suturing methods.
Note: Formulas: [1] Sealing Medicine, Antiseptic and Pain-Relieving Powder, Suturing Method: All see Nasal Bone Injury section.
[Upper Compilation External Treatment Methods - Head and Face]
[1] Fontanelle bone refers to the soft, pulsating area on the top of an infant's head where the skull bones have not yet fused, known as the fontanel.
[2] If caused by falling or striking, although the cranial suture may split, if the brain marrow is not shaken/injured and the tendons are not twisted/dislocated, the symptoms manifest as swelling and luster on the head and neck, pale/distended face, swollen eyes, enlarged nose appearance, everted lips, stiff tongue, lethargy, and drowsiness.
[3] If the skin is swollen but not broken or bleeding:
<1> Assist the patient to sit upright.
<2> Immediately mix Cong Juice (Cong Zhi) with Pain-Relieving Powder (Dingtong San) and apply to the injury site; cover with mulberry paper dipped in vinegar, and iron over the paper with a heated iron. Continue until the injury site feels hot and painful, and sounds are heard from the mouth.
<3> Remove the medicinal paste and apply Wanling Ointment (Wanling Gao), changing it every three days.
<4> Once pain subsides and appetite returns, remove the plaster and wash with He Shang Decoction (He Shang Tang). This expels wind, dissipates swelling, activates blood, and regulates qi.
[4] If the skin is broken and bleeding:
<1> Immediately use Pilewort Ash (Mapibo Hui) to stop the bleeding.
<2> Next, apply the Elm Bark Moxibustion-Ironing Method.
<3> Internally administer Ginseng and Purple Gold Elixir (Renshen Zijin Dan) to strengthen the spleen and stomach, boost yuan qi, relieve thirst and generate fluids, enhance spirit, strengthen the body, and ensure harmonious flow of tendons and blood.
<4> Avoid stimulating foods and strong alcohol. Wear a drawstring cap and cloth hat to avoid wind and cold; do not leave the room.
[5] If the wound breaks and bleeds continuously, the bone is depressed, and tendons are everted, the brain marrow must be damaged. Symptoms include limp body, inability to flex hands, rigid tendons, and faint breath without sound. This is critical and difficult to treat. If the open wound is exposed to cold wind, it is incurable.
[6] Mapibo, commonly known as Dog Head Ash, is best sourced from beyond the Great Wall.

[2] Moxibustion-Ironing Method
This method is specifically for moxibustion and ironing injuries where flesh is broken and blood flows. Since blood and fluids cause moisture, place bark as a barrier before applying heat/moisture. Place elm bark on the injury site first, then mix mashed old green onion with Qiai Pain-Relieving Powder evenly, place on the bark, perform moxibustion five times consecutively, and wrap in soft silk. Wear a drawstring cloth cap, tighten straps, and carefully avoid wind and cold.
