Passage:
The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: The Gallbladder is the official of uprightness, and decision-making arises from it. It further states: This meridian (Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian) has little blood and abundant qi.
It also states: All eleven zang-fu organs depend on the Gallbladder for their functions.
The *Nanjing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) states: The Gallbladder is located between the short lobes of the Liver, weighing three liang and three zhu, with a length of three cun, containing three he of essence juice.
The *Zhongzangjing* (Classic of Internal Organs) states: The Gallbladder is a pure and clear fu organ, known as the General, primarily responsible for storing essence without excreting it (Figure 68).
Passage:
The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian originates at the outer canthus (lateral angle of the eye), ascends to the vertex/corner of the head, descends behind the ear, runs along the neck anterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian,
reaches the shoulder, crosses posterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, and enters the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen); its branch enters the ear from behind the ear, emerges anterior to the ear,
and reaches the posterior aspect of the outer canthus;
another branch diverges from the outer canthus, descends to the Daying point, converges with the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian at the lower jaw/neck root area, descends past the Jiache point, travels down the neck to converge with the Quepen point, then enters the chest,
pierces the diaphragm, connects with the Liver, belongs to the Gallbladder, runs along the interior of the hypochondrium, emerges at the Qijie (inguinal region), surrounds the pubic hairline, and transversely enters the hip joint depression (Huantiao);
the main trunk descends from the Quepen into the axilla, follows the chest, passes through the lateral costal margin (Jixiong), descends to converge with the hip joint depression, then runs down the lateral thigh (Bi-yang), emerges at the lateral knee,
descends anterior to the fibula, reaches the end of the Juegu (distal fibula), emerges anterior to the lateral malleolus, runs along the dorsum of the foot, and enters the space between the fourth and fifth toes;
another branch diverges from the dorsum of the foot, enters the space between the first and second toes, runs along the medial side of the first metatarsal bone, emerges at its tip, curves back to penetrate the nail bed, and emerges at the trichiasis (hair tuft) area.
(Figure 69).
Passage:
The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian begins at the outer canthi of both eyes, ascends to the head, follows the temporal corner, descends behind the ear, sequentially passing through Naokong and Fengchi points,
anterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian reaches the shoulder, crosses posterior and superior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian to enter the supraclavicular fossa; a branch enters the ear from behind, emerges anterior to the ear to follow the outer canthus,
one branch descends from the outer canthus to the Daying point, converges with the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian at the neck root, descends past Jiache and converges at Quepen, enters the chest, pierces the diaphragm, connects with the Liver,
belongs to the Gallbladder, still passing through the hypochondriac interior, descends into the Qijie, circles the pubic hairline, and transversely enters the Huantiao point within the hip depression; the straight branch descends from Quepen to the Yuanli point in the axilla,
passes through the lateral costal margin into the Dai Mai region, emerges at the lateral knee which is Yanglingquan, passes anterior to the external auxiliary bone (fibula) and anterior to the ankle, dividing between the dorsum of the foot, the little toe, and the second toe;
one branch diverges from the big toe, connecting with the Liver Meridian at the trichiasis area.
Note: [1] The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian originates at the Tongziliao point at the outer canthus of the eye, follows the Tinghui and Keyuren points,
and ascends to the Han'an point at the corner of the head.
[2] From Han'an, it follows Xuanlu, Xuanli, Qubin, and Shuaigu, turns downward to Tianchong, Fubai,
Qiayin, Wanggu, etc., behind the ear; turns outward and upward to Benshen, Yangbai, Linqi, Mucuang, Zhengying,
Chengling, Naokong, etc., near the eyebrow; follows the neck to Fengchi, anterior to the Tianyou point of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian,
reaching the Jingming point of this meridian on the shoulder: from Jingming, it crosses posterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian and enters the Quepen.
[3] Its branch enters the ear from behind the ear, emerges anterior to the ear to the posterior outer canthus; this small branch
runs through areas of the head without acupoints.
[4] Another branch diverges from the outer canthus, descends to the Daying point of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, converges with the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian at the lower jaw/neck root, passes Jiache,
descends to the neck to converge at Quepen, enters the chest below, pierces the diaphragm, connects with the Liver, belongs to the Gallbladder, runs along the hypochondriac interior, emerges at Qijie,
scatters among the zang-fu organs, surrounds the pubic hairline externally, and transversely enters the Huantiao point in the hip depression.
[5] Its branch descends from Quepen to the Yuanli point; from Yuanli, it follows to the Zhejin point.
[6] From Zhejin and Riyue points, it passes the lateral costal margin to the Jingmen point; from Jingmen, it follows the Dai Mai, Wushu, Weidao,
Juliao points, and descends to converge with the Huantiao point in the hip depression.
[7] From Huantiao, it follows the Biyang Fengshi point; from Fengshi, it follows Duhui and Yangguan, emerges at the lateral knee,
which is the Yanglingquan point.
[8] From Yanglingquan, it follows Yangjiao, Waqiu, Guangming, etc., descends anterior to the external auxiliary bone to the Yangfu point.
[9] From Yangfu, it goes straight down to the end of the Juegu, the Xuanzhong point; from Xuanzhong, it descends and emerges anterior to the lateral malleolus at the Qiuxu point;
from Qiuxu, it follows the Linqi point on the dorsum of the foot.
[10] From Linqi, it enters the Xiya and Qiayin points between the little toe and the second toe.
[11] Its branch diverges from the dorsum of the foot, enters the space between the first and second toes, follows the medial side of the first metatarsal bone, emerges at its tip,
curves back to penetrate the nail and emerge at the trichiasis, thereby connecting with the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian.
