Article:
From the Lv bone (spinous process of lumbar vertebrae) down to the coccyx, there are twenty-one segments, with a total length of three chi.
(The Lv bone refers to the vertebral column. The vertebral column is small externally but massive internally; the reason humans can bear weight is due to the massiveness of these bones.
There are twenty-four segments in the vertebral column. The mention of twenty-one segments here excludes the three segments of the cervical spine from the calculation.
In males, the coccyx is pointed; in females, it is flat.)
The circumference of the waist is four chi two cun.
Note on Measurement:
Measurement of the back: From the Dazhui point (GV14) to the coccyx, the total measurement is three chi.
The upper seven segments each measure one cun four fen one li, totaling nine cun eight fen seven li.
The middle seven segments each measure one cun six fen one li, totaling one chi one cun two fen seven li.
The fourteenth segment is level with the umbilicus. The lower seven segments each measure one cun two fen six li, totaling eight cun eight fen two li.
The sum is two chi nine cun nine fen six li. The remaining four li are unaccounted fractional parts. Vertical measurements are based on this standard,
while horizontal measurements use the middle finger's equal-body cun method. The internal width of the vertebral column is one cun.
Whenever it is stated that the second row is one and a half cun from the spine, or the third row is three cun from the spine, the one-cun width of the spine itself is excluded, and calculations are made purely based on one and a half cun and three cun respectively.
Therefore, in the second row, the actual distance should be two cun, and in the third row, it should be three and a half cun.

From the Zhugu point (Jianjing, GB21) down to the invisible part within the axilla, the length is four cun. (Zhugu refers to the bone at the root of the neck.)
From below the axilla to the hypochondrium (Ji Xie), the length is one chi two cun. (The Ji Xie refers to the floating ribs.)
From below the hypochondrium to the Bitshu (hip joint), the length is six cun. (The thigh is called Gu; the upper part of the thigh is called Bi. Below the Jian bone and above the thigh, the junction where the two bones meet is called Bitshu, located at the Huantiao point (GB30) of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian.)
From the Bitshu down to the center of the knee, the length is one chi nine cun.
From the upper border of the Henggu (pubic bone) to the upper border of the medial epicondyle, the length is one chi eight cun.
(The edge of a bone is called Lian. The protruding bone beside the knee is called Fugu. The inner side is called Neifu, and the outer side is called Waifu.)
From the upper border of the medial epicondyle down to its lower border, the length is three and a half cun. (The upper and lower borders can be palpated.)
From the lower border of the medial epicondyle to the medial malleolus, the length is one chi two cun.
From the medial malleolus down to the ground, the length is three cun.
