[Formula Song] Umbilical herniation (Umbilical protrusion) arises from accumulated heat in the fetus, primarily due to improper regulation by the pregnant mother. The infant's umbilicus protrudes, becomes red, swollen, and large; it is appropriate to clear the heat of both mother and child, and the umbilicus will flatten.
[Note] This condition presents with the infant's umbilicus protruding, appearing red, swollen, and flaccidly distended. It results from the mother's failure to maintain proper health during pregnancy; while in the womb, the fetus is affected by the mother's accumulated heat, causing the umbilicus to swell after birth. At this stage, one should clear the heat of both mother and child. External application to the infant's umbilicus is not necessary and may cause harm. If, after more than ten days, the infant's umbilicus suddenly swells like a blown-up sac but without redness, produces a slight sound when pressed, or if the infant cries due to fright and palpitations, use Baishaoyao Tang (White Peony Decoction) with Yiyiren (Coix Seed). Let the infant take it orally, and apply Waixiaosan (External Resolution Powder) externally for recovery.
Formula: Baishaoyao Tang (White Peony Decoction)
Composition: Baishao (Bai Shao Radix Paeoniae Alba, stir-fried with wine, 1 liang), Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis, 5 qian), Gancao (Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae, raw, 1.2 qian), Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi, select thin pieces, scrape off rough bark, 1 qian).
Process into coarse powder. Each dose uses 2 qian, boiled in 1 zhong of water until reduced to three-quarters volume. Take frequently on an empty stomach. If there is pain below the umbilicus, add Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis, 1 qian), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 slice), and Yan (Sal, 0.5 li).
[Formula Song] Baishaoyao Tang contains Zexie and Gancao, plus Rougui ground into coarse powder. It specifically treats umbilical swelling and crying due to fright. Boil and take on an empty stomach, 2 qian per dose.
Another Formula: Waixiaosan (External Resolution Powder)
Composition: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Muli (Concha Ostreae, calcined, each 5 qian), Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 2 qian).
Grind into fine powder. Take dozens of live river snails, wash them clean, and soak them in half a basin of clear water overnight. Collect the water exuded by the snails, mix with the medicine, and apply to the affected area. Return the snails to the water without harming them for the formula to be effective.
[Formula Song] Waixiaosan applied externally for umbilical protrusion consists of calcined Muli, Dahuang, and Puxiao. Soak live river snails in clear water overnight, collect the water to mix with the medicine.
[Formula Song] Yinzhong (Scrotal Swelling) often appears in infants shortly after birth, caused by long sitting in damp and cold places leading to cold qi stagnation, or by anger and shouting causing qi obstruction. Treatment should be selected based on cold, heat, excess, and deficiency patterns.
[Note] This condition was formerly known as Tuonang (Testicular Evisceration/Gangrene). It is formed by long sitting in damp and cold places, causing cold qi to coagulate; occasionally, it arises from anger and shouting leading to qi closure and accumulation in the lower body. In all such cases, Taoren Wan (Peach Kernel Pill) is the primary treatment. If cold qi invades the Jueyin and Shaoyin meridians, symptoms include scrotal swelling and pain, abdominal pain, cold sweat, and retraction of the testes into the abdomen, returning only when pain subsides; this is called Neidiao (Internal Retraction). Use Wumei San (Mume Powder) and Yunqi San (Qi Regulating Powder). If the penis is completely retracted and invisible, or if the scrotum is swollen, large, bright, dry-free, and painless, it indicates deficiency of Liver and Kidney qi. Use Juzhe Decoction mixed with Yunqi San. If the scrotum and limbs are both swollen, with difficulty in urination and defecation, it is due to heat accumulation in the Bladder combined with wind-heat. Use Baiqianniu San (White Morning Glory Powder). If a female infant has swelling of the vulva, it is due to transmission of Heart heat. Use Daochi Tang (Guide Out Redness Decoction), or Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) decocted with Yiyiren (Coix Seed) and Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen). For external treatment, applying Lixiaosan (Instant Resolution Powder) is very effective.
Formula: Taoren Wan (Peach Kernel Pill)
Composition: Taoren (Persicae Semen, remove skin and tips, stir-fry until slightly yellow, 7.5 qian), Bajieli (Tribuli Fructus, slightly stir-fry, remove spines), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae), Danpi (Moutan Cortex, each 5 qian), Heiqianniu (Semen Pharbitidis Nigrum, first extraction powder, 2.5 qian).
Grind into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of millet grains. Take 10 pills per dose, washed down with yellow wine.
[Formula Song] Taoren Wan expels Yinzhong disease, addressing qi closure from anger or damp invasion. Composed of Jieli, Qianniu, Guixin, and Danpi, ground into powder and formed into honey pills the size of millet grains.
Another Formula: Wumei San (Mume Powder)
Composition: Wumei Rou (Fructus Mume, flesh), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, half raw, half roasted), Yuanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma), Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha, each 2.5 qian).
Pound into coarse powder. Each dose uses 2 qian, boiled in 1 zhong of water until reduced to seven-tenths volume.
[Formula Song] Wumei San uses Ruxiang and Moyao, along with Gouteng, Gancao, and Yuanhusuo. It treats scrotal swelling accompanied by abdominal pain; grind into coarse powder before boiling and taking.
Another Formula: Yunqi San (Qi Regulating Powder)
Composition: Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, stir-fried, 2 liang), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, remove white pith, 1 liang), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus, stir-fried), Suosharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, stir-fried, each 5 qian), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted, 4 qian), Jiangtan (Zingiberis Rhizoma Carbonisatum, 2.5 qian).
Grind into fine powder. Take 0.5 qian or 1 qian per dose, mixed with plain boiled water.
[Formula Song] Yunqi San is indicated for external cold invasion, presenting with scrotal swelling/pain and profuse sweating. It contains Jiegeng, Chenpi, roasted Gancao, Huixiang, Jiangtan, and Suosharen.
Another Formula: Baiqianniu San (White Morning Glory Powder)
Composition: Baiqianniu (Semen Pharbitidis Album, half raw, half cooked), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, soil-stir-fried), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex, Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), each 1 qian).
Decoct in water and take.
[Formula Song] Baiqianniu San combines Gancao and Juhong, with Baizhu, Sangbaipi, and Mutong. It treats scrotal swelling accompanied by limb swelling, able to expel heat accumulation and blockage in the Bladder.
Another Formula: Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria)
Composition: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, soil-stir-fried), Chifuling (Poria Cum Radix Pini Rossei, each 1.5 qian), Zhuling (Poria, Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, each 1 qian), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae, 0.5 fen).
Decoct in water and take.
[Formula Song] Wuling San adds Baizhu and Guixin; Chifuling clears Heart fire pathogenic factors; Zhuling and Zexie promote diuresis to separate fluids. Harmonizing the zang-fu organs, its efficacy is praiseworthy.
Another Formula: Lixiaosan (Instant Resolution Powder)
Composition: Chixiaodou (Vigna Semen Adzuki), Fenghuaxiao (Natrii Sulfas Efflorescens), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, bran-stir-fried), Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix). All ingredients should not be exposed to fire; sun-dry and grind into powder, each 5 qian.
Decoct dried leaves of Platanus orientalis (or similar side tree leaves as per context, likely referring to a specific local herb or typo for Ce Bai Ye/Cupressus leaf, but literal translation used) in water, let cool, mix with powder, and apply to the swollen area.
[Formula Song] Lixiaosan treats scrotal swelling and pain caused by wind-cold-damp-heat toxicity. It consists of Chixiaodou and Fenghuaxiao, with Chishao and Zhike ground together adding Shanglu.
Another Formula: Daochi Tang (Guide Out Redness Decoction) (See section on Mouth Ulcers in the Oral Section)
