[Verse] Infant's drooping carbuncle (Chui Yong) arises on the hard palate; a red, swollen nodule forms in front of the throat causing pain. Due to accumulated heat coagulation, it is suitable to puncture and lacerate, administer Wufu Dan (Five Blessings Pill), and apply Bingpeng San (Bingpang Powder).
[Note] This condition arises on the anterior hard palate, hanging down like a bead, with redness, swelling, and pain, preventing the infant from suckling milk. After three or four days, it is appropriate to use a needle to prick one or two fen deep, draining pus and blood, which will reduce the swelling and pain. It is caused by accumulated heat coagulation; it is suitable to take Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Detoxifying Pill), and concurrently apply Bingpeng San (Bingpang Powder) to the abscess site, applying it three times daily. The nursing mother should consistently avoid fishy odors and spicy foods.
Formula: Wufu Huadu Dan (See section on Chi You Dan Du)
Bingpeng San (See section on Mouth Ulceration - Eruption Mouth)
[Verse] At the onset of Tai Feng (Fetal Wind), the skin color is red; the appearance is similar to being scalded by boiling water or burned by fire. The syndrome results from excessive accumulated heat in the pregnant mother; administering Qingwei Tang (Stomach-Clearing Decoction) yields merit.
[Note] This condition is also known as Tai Chi (Fetal Redness). When the infant is first born, the body is hot and the skin is red, resembling scalding or burning. This is due to the pregnant mother overeating pungent, aromatic, and hot-natured foods, leading to accumulated heat in the Spleen and Stomach. The nursing mother should take Qingwei Tang (Stomach-Clearing Decoction), and the infant should drink a small amount. If the external skin is inflamed and red, calcined Gypsum Fibrosum (Duan Shigao) ground into fine powder should be applied externally. If there is no inflammation and redness, it is due to Spleen deficiency in the pregnant mother, and Rice Flour (Jingmi Fen) should be applied externally. If the child is older and can eat rice and flour, presenting with body heat and red skin, this is due to internal steaming of Fu-organ heat and external invasion of dampness; this is named Yulan Chuang (Jade-Rotting Ulcer). It is suitable to use Ruyi Jinhuang San (Ruyi Golden Yellow Powder), mixed with honey water for external application, and internally taking Daochi Tang (Guide Out Redness Decoction) for effectiveness.
Formula: Qingwei Tang (See section on Teeth - Gum Bleeding)
Ruyi Jinhuang San (See section on Swollen Ulcers Gate)
Daochi Tang (See section on Mouth - Oral Bleeding)
[Verse] Umbilical ulcer (Qi Chuang) involves the infant's umbilicus breaking and injury from water; applying ash from burnt straw paper is best. If it does not heal for a long time, wind pathogen invades; fearing the onset of Wind Epilepsy (Feng Xian), strict prevention is required.
[Note] This condition is caused by water-dampness injuring the umbilicus. If it does not heal for a long time, it may develop into convulsions, and due to external invasion of wind pathogen, it fears transforming into Wind Epilepsy. It is suitable to apply ash from large sheets of straw paper, or add Alum (Kufan); or additionally mix equal parts of calcined Dragon Bone (Longgu) and sprinkle with a small amount of Musk (Shexiang) on the lesion for immediate effect.
