The *Ling Shu: Mai Du Pian* states: The Qiao meridians are branch vessels of the Shaoyang (Lesser Yang). They originate behind the Ran Gu point, ascend above the medial malleolus, travel straight upward along the medial aspect of the thigh and into the genital region, then ascend through the interior of the chest to the Que Pen point. From there, they emerge anterior to the Ying Chu point, enter the cheek, and connect with the inner canthus of the eye. There, they merge with the Taiyang (Greater Yang) and Yang Qiao meridians to ascend together. When Qi circulates mutually between them, it moistens the eyes; if the Qi fails to nourish the eyes, the eyelids cannot close (Figure 82).
The *Nan Jing: Chapter 28* states: The Yang Qiao meridian originates in the middle of the heel, ascends along the lateral malleolus, and enters the Feng Chi point. The Yin Qiao meridian also originates in the middle of the heel, ascends along the medial malleolus, reaches the throat, and intersects with the Chong meridian.
Text:
The Yang Qiao meridian originates in the middle of the heel, ascends and merges with the three Yang meridians at the lateral malleolus, travels from the hypochondrium along the shoulder to the neck and cheek, connects with the inner canthus, and belongs to the Taiyang meridian.
Commentary [1]: The Yang Qiao meridian originates in the center of the heel, ascends merging with the three Yang meridians at the lateral malleolus, passes through the Ju Liao point of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian in the hypochondriac region, ascends along the shoulder, enters the neck and cheek at points such as Jian Liao and Cheng Qi of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, connects with the inner canthus, and meets the Taiyang meridian.
Text:
The Yang Qiao meridian is near Shen Mai and Pu Can, located between Ju Liao of the Foot-Shaoyang and Jian Liao of the Hand-Yangming, passing through Nao Shu, Di Cang, and Cheng Qi, finally terminating at the single acupoint Jing Ming.
Text:
The Yang Qiao meridian originates from the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Shen Mai is stored five fen below the lateral malleolus. Pu Can winds around below the calcaneus posteriorly. Fu Yang is located three cun above the lateral malleolus. Ju Liao is taken from the depression above the iliac crest/cartilage end. Jian Liao is one point on the scapula corresponding to the tip of the shoulder. Ascending above the shoulder is named Ju Gu. Above the scapula is Nao Shu. Di Cang is located four cun lateral to the corner of the mouth. Ju Liao borders eight fen lateral to the nose. Cheng Qi is seven fen below the eye. Jing Ming rises from the inner canthus.
Commentary [1]: "Qiao" refers to the foot; these are names for the extraordinary vessels involving the feet.
[2] It is called "Yang" because it traverses the Yang meridians.
[3] The Yang Qiao is a branch vessel of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, originating at Shen Mai, an indentation five fen below the lateral malleolus of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian.
[4] From Shen Mai, winding behind to below the calcaneus is Pu Can.
[5] From Pu Can, obliquely to three cun above the lateral malleolus is Fu Yang.
[6] It again meets the Foot-Shaoyang at eight cun three fen below the end of the costal cartilage of the hypochondrium, which is Ju Liao.
[7] It again meets the Hand-Yangming at the top of the humeral head/shoulder end, which is Jian Liao.
[8] Ascending from Jian Liao to the bifurcation bones above the shoulder tip is Ju Gu.
[9] It again meets the Hand-Taiyang, Foot-Taiyang, and Yang Wei meridians at the upper border of the scapula below the large bone posterior to the shoulder, which is Nao Shu.
[10] It again meets the Hand-Yangming and Foot-Yangming four fen lateral to the corner of the mouth, which is Di Cang.
[11] From Di Cang, traveling eight fen lateral to the nostril is Ju Liao.
[12] It again meets the Ren Meridian and Foot-Yangming seven fen below the eye, which is Cheng Qi.
[13] It again meets the Hand-Taiyang, Foot-Taiyang, Foot-Yangming, and Yin Qiao meridians one fen lateral to the inner canthus, which is Jing Ming (see Figure 83).
