素女曰∶五欲者,以知其应。一曰意欲得之,则屏息屏气;二曰阴欲得之,则鼻口两张;
According to the *Yufang Mijue* (Secrets of the Jade Chamber): The Yellow Emperor asked, "What are the Five Constants?" Su Nu replied, "The penis indeed embodies the principles of the Five Constants." If one dwells in seclusion, maintains self-discipline, harbors supreme virtue within, and does not indulge excessively during sexual intercourse. When the penis desires to give, this is Ren (Benevolence); when it has a hollow center, this is Yi (Righteousness); when it has distinct segments/rhythms, this is Li (Propriety); when it rises as desired and stops as desired, this is Xin (Trustworthiness); when it adjusts its position according to circumstances, this is Zhi (Wisdom). Therefore, the perfected person regulates themselves according to the Five Constants. Although benevolent desire seeks to give, if essence is not firmly retained, one must wisely prohibit emission, just as guarding the hollow space. This prevents leakage, which is the way to preserve abundant essence. Since giving is necessary, Li (Propriety) serves as the regulation. By holding sincerity, Xin (Trustworthiness) is established. At this point, one should understand the method of intercourse. Thus, by following the Five Constants, one can achieve longevity.
According to the *Yufang Mijue*: The Yellow Emperor asked, "How can one know when a woman experiences pleasure?" Su Nu replied, "There are five signs and five desires, as well as ten movements. By observing these changes, one can understand the underlying causes."
The signs of the five indicators are: First, when the face turns red, one should slowly join; Second, when the breasts become firm and sweat appears on the nose, one should slowly insert; Third, when the throat becomes dry and saliva is swallowed, one should slowly rock; Fourth, when the vagina becomes slippery, one should slowly deepen; Fifth, when fluid flows from the buttocks, one should slowly draw back.
Su Nu said: The five desires indicate corresponding responses. First, when the mind desires fulfillment, breath is held and qi is restrained; Second, when the yin organ desires fulfillment, the nostrils and mouth open wide; Third, when essence desires agitation, the body trembles and embraces the man; Fourth, when the heart desires satisfaction, sweat flows and wets the clothes; Fifth, when intense pleasure is sought, the body straightens and eyes close partially.
Su Nu said: The effects of the ten movements are: First, hugging with both hands indicates a desire for bodies to press closely together and yin and yang to correspond; Second, extending and spreading the thighs indicates a desire to grind against the upper area; Third, opening the abdomen indicates a desire for shallow penetration; Fourth, moving the buttocks indicates pleasure and comfort; Fifth, lifting both legs to hook the partner indicates a desire for deep penetration; Sixth, crossing the two thighs indicates internal itching and arousal; Seventh, swaying sideways indicates a desire for deep left-right friction; Eighth, pressing the whole body against the partner indicates intense sexual joy; Ninth, stretching the body loosely indicates physical relaxation and ease; Tenth, slippery vaginal fluid indicates that essence has been ejaculated. Observing these effects allows one to know whether the woman is experiencing pleasure.
