*Yangsheng Yaoji* states: After the recovery from warm diseases or cold damage, one should only consume congee, eating in small amounts and avoiding overeating. After a period of time has passed and recovery progresses, mutton may be consumed in moderation.
It further states: Within one hundred days after the recovery from toxic cold damage, consumption of pork, intestines, blood products, fatty fish, and hard-to-digest dry foods is prohibited.
*Yangxing Zhi* states: After the recovery from various diseases, five pungent spices (garlic, chives, leeks, wild garlic, coriander) should not be eaten, as doing so can cause blindness.
*Qijuan Shijing* states: After recovery from epidemic diseases (seasonal infectious diseases), foods such as garlic, leeks, shrimp, and eel are prohibited. If dietary restrictions are ignored and the disease recurs, it becomes difficult to treat and tends to relapse in subsequent years.
After an epidemic disease, cakes, raw fish slices, various raw fruits and vegetables, and other hard-to-digest foods are prohibited, as they will all cause the disease to recur.
After recovery from an epidemic disease via sweating, cold water should not be drunk, as it damages the Pericardium (Xinbao), leading to chronic weakness and instability of the Heart.
Patients with epidemic diseases should not consume carp, tuna, small carp, or eel, as this will prevent the disease from healing.
Raw dates and mutton should also be avoided, as they cause heat accumulation in the chest and diaphragm.
Patients must not consume bear meat, as it leads to chronic illness that ultimately cannot be cured.
After an epidemic disease, alcohol and raw fish/meat are prohibited, as they cause diarrhea and dysentery, which are difficult to treat.
If less than three months have passed since recovery from a seasonal disease, consuming crucian carp followed by various vegetables will result in emaciation and lack of muscle tone for three years.
Consuming plums and oily foods causes severe diarrhea, which is difficult to treat.
Consuming melons combined with raw fish slices causes disease recurrence.
Consuming garlic with raw fish slices damages the Stomach and leads to wasting.
If less than three months have passed, consuming eel causes disease recurrence.
Eating green flowering vegetables before the body has regained strength after an epidemic disease causes heaviness and weakness in the hands and feet.
Drinking alcohol followed by sexual intercourse causes disease relapse and certain death.
Eating raw vegetables followed by sexual intercourse causes disease relapse and certain death.
*Qianjin Fang* states: Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) occurs because the hundred vessels share a single origin, and thus all become diseased. Its symptoms include aversion to cold and vomiting, indicating the pathology is in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner).
Symptoms of Baihe Bing include wanting to eat but being unable to do so; sometimes finding food delicious, other times being repulsed by the smell of food or drink; appearing to have cold when there is none, and appearing to have heat when there is none; often remaining silent and desiring to sleep but unable to do so; bitter taste in the mouth by morning; dark and painful urination; desiring to move but being unable to walk. Various medicines fail to cure it.
For Baihe Bing, if the pulse is slightly rapid and the patient feels headache during urination, recovery takes sixty days.
For Baihe Bing, if the patient does not feel headache during urination but feels chilly like having a cold, recovery takes forty days.
For Baihe Bing, if the patient feels comfortable during urination but experiences dizziness, recovery occurs within twenty days.
For Baihe Bing, whether the patient anticipates these symptoms before onset, or presents them after one month and twenty days of illness, treatment is required.
Formula for treating Baihe Bing after sweating has already been applied:
Take seven bulbs of Lily Root (Baihe Gen), split them, wash them, and soak them in two sheng of water overnight. When foam appears in the water, discard the soaking water the next morning, take out the lily root, and decoct it in two sheng of spring water until reduced to one sheng.
Formula for treating Baihe Bing after purgation has already been applied:
Hua Shi (Talcum, 3 liang), Dai Zhe Shi (Haematitum, 1 liang).
Decoct in three sheng of water until one sheng remains. Add one sheng of Lily Root juice prepared as above, mix well, and decoct again until one and a half sheng remains. Divide into two doses.
Formula for treating Baihe Bing after emesis has already been applied:
One sheng of Lily Root juice prepared as above. Take one egg yolk, add it to the juice, stir until mixed, and divide into two doses.
Formula for treating Baihe Bing where no sweating, emesis, or purgation was initially used, and the condition remains as at the start:
Three sheng of Sheng Di Huang Zhi (Fresh Rehmannia Juice). Mix with Lily Root juice and decoct until one and a half sheng remains. Divide into two doses. The removal of foul foam serves as the indicator.
Formula for treating Baihe Bing that has persisted for a month and transformed into thirst:
Take one sheng of Lily Root, soak it in one hu of water overnight. Use this liquid to wash the patient's body. After washing, consume white wheat noodles boiled in plain water; do not add salt or fermented soybeans.
Formula for treating Baihe Bing that has transformed into fever:
Hua Shi (Talcum, 3 liang), Baihe Gen (Lily Root, 1 liang).
Crush and dry the ingredients. Take one fangcun bi (a measure approx. 2-3 grams) with water, three times daily. Mild diarrhea is expected; stop medication once diarrhea ceases.
Formula for treating Baihe Bing that has transformed into abdominal fullness and pain:
Take an appropriate amount of Lily Root, roast it until yellow. Take one fangcun bi of the powder with water, three times daily. Abdominal fullness subsides and pain stops.
