The *Yufang Mijue* (Secrets of the Jade Chamber) states: Chongyangzi said, "It is not only yang that needs nourishment; yin should be treated in the same manner. Queen Mother of the West (Xiwangmu) is one who attained the Dao through nourishing yin." When she engaged in intercourse with a man once, the man immediately suffered damage and illness; whereas her complexion remained radiant, requiring no rouge or powder, and she commonly consumed milk and cheese while playing the five-stringed zither. This was done to harmonize the heart-mind and will, ensuring no other desires arose.
It further states: The Queen Mother had no husband and preferred to engage in intercourse with young boys; therefore, this cannot serve as a model for worldly education. Must it be so only for the Queen Mother?
It further states: When engaging in intercourse with a man, one should calm the mind and stabilize the will, resembling the state of a man before erection. Only when qi arrives should one slightly restrain oneself; emotional states should correspond with the partner. One must not shake or leap vigorously, lest the ying essence (Jing) deplete first. If ying essence depletes first, the vaginal cavity becomes empty, making it susceptible to wind-cold pathogens. Or, upon hearing of a man's intercourse with others, jealousy and vexation may arise, causing yin qi to surge, leading to restlessness and anger, resulting in spontaneous ejaculation, emaciation, and sudden aging. All these result from this cause, and thus one should exercise restraint and caution.
It further states: If one understands the method of nourishing yin, allowing the two qi to harmonize, then (the female's yin) can transform into male yang. If pregnancy does not occur, it transforms into body fluids, flowing into the hundred vessels, nourishing yin with yang, eliminating hundred diseases, brightening the complexion, beautifying the skin, extending life span, preventing aging, and remaining perpetually youthful like a child. If one truly masters this method and frequently engages in intercourse with men, one can abstain from grain food and not feel hunger for nine days. Even those afflicted by demonic intercourse can survive without eating and become thin; how much more so for intercourse with humans?
The *Dongxuanzi* states: Heaven rotates to the left, and Earth turns to the right; spring and summer give way to autumn and winter; the male leads (sings), and the female responds (harmonizes); the superior guides, and the inferior follows. This is the general principle of things. If the male moves but the female does not respond, or the female moves but the male does not comply, this not only harms the male but also injures the female. This arises because yin and yang operate perversely, and the upper and lower are contrary. In such conjunction, neither party benefits. Therefore, the male must rotate left and the female right; the male thrusts from below, and the female receives from above. Through this conjunction, heaven is level and earth is established. Regarding depth, speed, and twisting directions, the principles are not singular but myriad. If movements are slow, it resembles a carp playing with a hook; if urgent, it resembles birds encountering wind. Advancing and retreating, pulling and guiding, meeting above and below, returning left and right, entering and exiting with varying density—this is mutual support to accomplish the task, adapting to circumstances. One cannot stick rigidly to fixed musical tones to achieve immediate utility.
It further states: At the initial moment of union, the man sits with the woman on his left; the woman sits with the man on her right. The man sits with legs spread (ji zuo), holding the woman in his arms. He then tightens her slender waist, strokes her jade-like body, extends graceful postures, and expresses lingering affection. With unified hearts and minds, they embrace and squeeze alternately, their forms intertwine, and their mouths meet. The man holds the woman's lower lip, and the woman holds the man's upper lip. They simultaneously swallow each other's saliva, or gently bite tongues, or lightly rub lips, or invite and hold heads, or press vital points and pinch ears, stroking above and patting below, moving east and west. Once all charms are extended and worries resolved, the woman places her left hand around the man's penis, and the man uses his right hand to touch the woman's vagina. Thus, when the man feels yang qi, the penis vibrates. Its appearance is: rising sharply, like a solitary peak near the Milky Way. When the woman feels yang qi, fluids flow from the Danyue (cinnabar cave/vagina). Its appearance is: trickling down, like a hidden spring spilling into a deep valley. This is caused by the mutual stimulation of yin and yang, not by human effort alone. Only when heat reaches this stage should intercourse proceed. If the man does not feel vibration and the woman has no lubrication, it is because disease originates internally and manifests externally.
The *Yufang Mijue* records: Huangdi asked, "What is the way of yin-yang intercourse?" Sunu answered, "The way of intercourse has specific forms. The male gathers qi through it; the female eliminates disease through it. If the mind is joyful and entertained, strength increases. Those who do not know the method suffer depletion and decline. To know the method, one must calm the mind and harmonize the will, returning spirit gently, avoiding extremes of cold/heat and fullness/hunger, stabilizing the body and rectifying the intention, so that sexual desire is naturally slow and relaxed. Insertion should be smooth and movement gentle; frequency of entry and exit should be sparse. This serves as the rhythm. Do not violate this. The woman will be delighted, and the man will not weaken."
It further states: Huangdi asked, "Now I wish to force intercourse, but the penis does not erect, my face is ashamed and my mind attached, sweat beads like pearls, and my heart is greedy for desire. I forcibly assist with my hands. How can I strengthen it? I wish to hear the method." Sunu replied, "Your Majesty's question concerns what everyone experiences. There are rules for joining women. First, harmonize qi, then the penis will erect. Comply with the Five Constants, and preserve sensation in the Nine Regions. Women have five colors; carefully examine where to strike. Collect overflowing essence, take fluid from the mouth, let essence return and transform, filling the marrow and brain. Avoid the prohibitions of Seven Damages, practice the Eight Benefits, do not violate the Five Constants, and the body can be preserved. With internal充盈 (fullness) of righteous qi, what disease cannot be removed? With peaceful viscera, radiant luster, and smooth texture, erection occurs upon every contact. Strength multiplies by a hundred; enemies submit. What shame is there?"
The *Yufang Zhiyao* records: Daoist Liu Jing said, "In the art of managing women, one must first engage in slow play until spirits harmonize and intentions resonate. Only after a long time should intercourse begin. Insert when weak, withdraw quickly when strong. Between withdrawal and insertion, aim for slowness and spacing. Do not throw yourself high, which would invert the five viscera, damage meridians, and cause various diseases. Merely contacting without ejaculating, one can engage in dozens of acts day and night without losing essence. Severe illnesses will heal, and lifespan will increase." The *Xuannü Jing* records: Huangdi asked, "During intercourse, if the woman is displeased, her body does not move, fluids do not emerge, and the penis is not strong, small, and lacks momentum, why is this?" Xuannü replied, "Yin and yang respond through mutual stimulation. Yang does not rejoice without yin; yin does not rise without yang. If the man desires intercourse but the woman is unwilling, or the woman desires it but the man does not, the two hearts are discordant, and essence/qi do not resonate. Coupled with sudden, violent action before pleasure is bestowed, where the man seeks the woman and the woman seeks the man, if intentions align and both hearts are pleased, then the woman's body vibrates in response, and the man's penis becomes vigorous. Male heat stimulates acupoints, essence flows, the penis relaxes and extends, alternating between slow and fast rhythms, the vaginal opening opens and closes. Sometimes activity is strenuous yet non-fatiguing; the strong enemy finds leisure. Absorbing essence and guiding qi irrigates the Vermilion Chamber. Now I present nine matters, with methods fully detailed. Extend and contract, bow and look up, advance and retreat, bend and fold. Your Majesty should practice these carefully and avoid deviation."
