《病源论》云∶产伤动血气，虚损未复而风邪冷热之气客于经络，乍冷乍热，冷则血结，
热则血消。故令血或多或少，乍在月前，或在月后，为不调也。
《子母秘录》云∶产后月水闭，乍在月前，或在月后，腰腹痛，手足烦疼，唇口干，连
年月水不通，血干着脊，牡丹丸方∶

上三物，捣筛，蜜丸如梧子，先食以粥清汁，服七丸，日三。

The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: Childbirth injures and depletes Qi and Blood. If the body remains deficient and has not yet recovered, Wind pathogens along with Cold and Heat evils may invade the meridians and collaterals. This manifests as alternating chills and fever; Cold causes Blood to coagulate, while Heat causes Blood to dissipate. Consequently, menstrual flow becomes irregular in volume—either excessive or scanty—and occurs either before or after the expected time, constituting irregular menstruation.
The *Zimu Milu* (Secret Record of Mother and Child) states: Postpartum amenorrhea, occurring either before or after the expected time, accompanied by pain in the lower back and abdomen, vexation and pain in the hands and feet, dryness of the lips and mouth, and prolonged amenorrhea where Blood dries up and adheres to the spine.
Mudan Wan (Peony Pill) Formula:
* Kushen (Coptidis Rhizoma, 10 parts)
* Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, 5 parts)
* Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus, 3 parts)
Crush and sieve these three herbs. Mix with honey to form pills the size of a wu zi (seed of *Abrus precatorius*). Take seven pills before meals with rice water decoction, three times daily.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Postpartum deficiency and damage have not yet recovered, and the body is injured by Wind-Cold. Therefore, menstruation does not occur.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Formulas by Ge) states: A formula for postpartum amenorrhea:
Grind Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus/Cortex) into powder. Take one fang cun bi (a square-inch measure) with wine.
Another formula:
Heat an iron pestle until red-hot, then immerse it in wine. Drink this wine.
The *Zimu Milu* states: A formula for postpartum menstrual obstruction:
Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), three da liang (large taels). Boil in three da sheng (large sheng) of water until reduced to one sheng. Divide into three doses. Take on an empty stomach; the effect is miraculous.
The *Luyan Fang* (Verified Formulas) treats postpartum sores covering the entire body, resembling burns, with heat like fire:
Taoren (Persicae Semen), crush and mix with zhugao (pig fat). Apply to the sores two or three times daily; healing will follow.
