The *Lu Yan Fang* (Recorded Verified Formulas) treats Shaoyang disease (Taiyang disease progressing to the interior or involving the Shaoyang channel) after eight or nine days, presenting with abdominal fullness, heat in both the exterior and interior, restlessness, and anxiety. The Chaihu Tang (Bupleurum Decoction) formula is as follows:
Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 2 liang), Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, 3 liang), Wei Rui (Herba Polygonati Odorati, 3 liang), Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 8 liang), Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 3 liang), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae, 2 liang), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 liang).
These ten ingredients are sliced and decocted in one dou of water until three sheng remain. Take one sheng warm, three times a day.
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats febrile diseases due to wind-heat after ten days or more, where sweating fails to resolve the pathogen, as well as persistent heat after vomiting and purgation, and intractable diarrhea. The formula is as follows:
Da Qing (Cortex Isatidis, 4 liang), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 liang), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, 2 liang), Dou Chi (Fructus Sojae Preparatus, 1 sheng).
These four ingredients are decocted in eight sheng of water until three sheng remain. Take one sheng at once, three times a day.
The *Ji Yan Fang* (Collected Verified Formulas) states: Yin Toxin syndrome may develop into Yin Toxin within one or two days of the onset of cold damage, or it may transform into Yin Toxin after taking herbal medicine for six to seven days up to ten days. Symptoms include heavy body, stiff back, severe colicky pain in the abdomen, dysphagia, toxic qi attacking the heart, hardness below the heart, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, cyanosis of the lips, black complexion, cold limbs, and a pulse that is deep, fine, tight, and rapid. This is the pattern of Yin Toxin. The body feels as if beaten. It is treatable within five days; if untreated for seven days, it becomes difficult to cure. The formula is (identical to that in *Yi Men Fang*):
Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 fen, honey-fried), Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 2 fen), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 fen), Shu Jiao (Pericarpium Zanthoxyli, 1 fen), Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, 4 fen).
These five ingredients are crushed and decocted in five sheng of water until two and a half sheng remain. Divide into three doses. After walking about five li, take another dose. Cover warmly to induce sweating. If toxin-induced sweating occurs, recovery follows. If no sweat occurs, administer again after symptoms subside.
The *Ji Yan Fang* states: Yang Toxin syndrome may develop into Yang Toxin within one or two days of the onset of cold damage, or it may transform into Yang Toxin after vomiting and purgation following medication administration. Symptoms include heavy body, backache, restlessness, flushed face, delirious speech, running about, hallucinations of seeing ghosts, diarrhea, a floating, large, and rapid pulse, mottled facial rash resembling brocade, sore throat, and passage of pus and blood. Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 fen, honey-fried), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 fen), Shu Jiao (Pericarpium Zanthoxyli, 1 fen, remove seeds), Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 2 fen), Xiong Huang (Realgar, 2 fen), Gui Xin (Cortex Cinnamomi, 1 fen).
These six ingredients are crushed and decocted in five sheng of water until two and a half sheng remain. Divide into three doses. After walking about five li, take another dose. Warmly cover the hands and feet. If toxin-induced sweating occurs, relief follows. If not relieved, prepare and administer again. This disease exists in the current era, but these two formulas have actually never been used.
