Ji Yan Fang records: After profuse sweating in Taiyang disease (Taiyang disease, a syndrome caused by pathogenic factors invading the Taiyang meridian), if the pulse remains surging and large, and the physical condition resembles malaria with daily episodes that resolve after sweating, use the following prescription:
Guixin Tang (Cinnamon Heart Decoction) ingredients: Rougui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex, one liang and sixteen zhu), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, one liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, one liang, roasted), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, one liang, roasted), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, fourteen pieces), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, one liang, nodes removed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, twenty-three pieces).
These seven substances are chopped. Add five sheng of water, first boil Mahuang until it boils again, then add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain one sheng and eight he of liquid. Take six he per dose.
Qian Jin Fang states: In Taiyang disease, epistaxis (nosebleed) occurs due to residual heat in the hypochondriac region. The heat usually stops spontaneously with the bleeding. If it does not stop, use the following prescription:
Muli (Ostreae Concha, ten fen, select those facing left), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, five fen).
The above two substances are taken as a powder measure of fangcunbi, administered with wine before meals, three to four times daily. This formula can also be used for any epistaxis. Another method is to take it with rice gruel. (This is consistent with Ji Yan Fang.)
Seng Shen Fang treats epistaxis in febrile diseases where bleeding is excessive (one or two hu):
Puhuang (Typhae Pollen, five he).
Mix with water and drink all at once; recovery follows immediately. If not cured, refer to other prescriptions for epistaxis.
Another prescription: Burn cow dung to ash, take a fangcunbi dose.
Another prescription: Washing with cold water is beneficial.
Ji Yan Fang treats dry mouth and excessive salivation in Taiyang febrile disease:
Ganzao (Dried Jujube, twenty pieces, split), Wumei (Mume Fructus, ten pieces, crushed).
Crush these two substances together, mix with honey, form into pills the size of apricot kernels, hold in the mouth, and swallow the juice.
Fan Wang Fang treats hemoptysis (spitting blood) in febrile disease:
Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma, single ingredient). Crush, sift into powder, take a fangcunbi dose, three times daily. Alternatively, extract the juice and drink it.
Ji Yan Fang treats vomiting leading to extreme emaciation and impending death in Taiyang disease:
Jizi (Galli Ovum, fourteen eggs).
Boil in five sheng of water to reduce to two sheng. Then add Chishao (Fermented Soybean, four he), boil for two or three more boils, remove the fermented soybeans, and divide into two doses.
Bing Yuan Lun states: The reason for hiccups (involuntary spasms of the diaphragm) in Taiyang disease is deficiency-cold in the stomach.
Ge Shi Fang treats persistent hiccups in Taiyang disease:
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, three liang), Juapi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, one sheng).
Add five sheng of water, decoct to obtain one sheng, take in one dose, three to four times daily.
Duan Ju Fang states: During spring and summer, epidemic cold-toxins injure the stomach, causing stomach coldness. Prescription:
Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma, cut, one sheng), Juapi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, two liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, two liang), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, two liang).
These four substances are boiled in six sheng of water to obtain three sheng, divided into three doses.
Jiu Ji Fang states: After epidemic disease, if there is dry heaving or hiccups accompanied by cold extremities, use this prescription:
Juapi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, four liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, half jin).
Boil these in seven sheng of water to obtain three sheng, divide into four or five doses. Immediate efficacy is expected.
