The *Yufang Mijue* (Secrets of the Jade Chamber) records: Chonghezi said: Indulging in desires inevitably leads to diseases of damage; this is a manifest verification. Since this illness arises from such indulgence, it can also be cured by restraining it, just as wine is used to cure drunkenness, which serves as a sufficient analogy.
It further records: Cai Nu asked: How can one discern the decline or vigor of men? Peng Zu replied: When vigor is abundant and Qi is acquired, the jade stem (penis) should feel hot, and the yang essence will be thick and coagulated. There are five signs of decline: First, if essence leaks out, Qi is damaged; Second, if essence is clear and scanty, flesh (muscles) is damaged; Third, if essence changes color and smells foul, sinews are damaged; Fourth, if essence ejaculates without force, bones are damaged; Fifth, if the yin organ fails to rise, the root (kidney/essence) is damaged. All these damages result from intercourse that is not leisurely but sudden and violent ejaculation. The treatment method is to engage in sexual activity without ejaculating; within a hundred days, strength and Qi will certainly return to a hundredfold.
It further records: During intercourse, keeping eyes open and seeing the partner's body, or reading books/images by candlelight at night, leads to dim vision and blindness. The treatment is to close the eyes during nocturnal intercourse, which leads to recovery.
Adopting a position where the partner lies on top, thrusting the waist from below to meet them, causes lower back pain, urgency and tension in the lower abdomen, and curvature of the legs. The treatment is to lie supine with the body straight and engage in slow play, leading to recovery.
Turning sideways during intercourse, facing the partner's hand, and lifting the partner's buttocks causes flank pain. The treatment is to lie flat and engage in slow play, leading to recovery. Bending the head and extending the neck during intercourse causes heavy head and stiff neck. The treatment is to place the head on the partner's forehead, keeping the head upright, leading to recovery.
Engaging in intercourse when full, specifically playing before midnight when food has not digested, leads to sores, chest fullness, a pulling sensation under the flanks, a tearing sensation in the chest, loss of appetite, epigastric blockage, occasional vomiting of green-yellow fluid, excess stomach Qi, knotted pulse, nasal bleeding or hematemesis, hardness and pain under the flanks, and malignant sores on the face. The treatment is to wait until past midnight towards dawn to engage in intercourse, leading to recovery.
Engaging in intercourse while intoxicated, exerting deep and extreme effort, leads to jaundice, black jaundice, flank pain, qi stagnation, tenderness upon pressing the lower thigh area, a sensation like a water-filled sac reaching above the navel, shoulder discomfort, severe cases involving chest and back pain, coughing up blood, and rising qi. The treatment is to avoid intercourse while drunk or hot, especially in the morning; engage in slow and relaxed physical play, leading to recovery.
Having the urge to urinate but not doing so before intercourse leads to strangury (lin syndrome), urgency in the lower abdomen, difficult urination, pain in the urethra, and a constant desire to grasp the penis. After a moment, there is an urge to void. The treatment is to urinate first, then lie down and calm oneself; after the time it takes to eat a meal, engage in slow intercourse, leading to recovery.
Having the urge to defecate or being constipated while engaging in intercourse leads to hemorrhoids. Difficulty in defecation, passing clear fluid, progressing over days to passing pus and blood, sores around the anus resembling bee hives, leaning on the toilet, involuntary stool passage, pain, abscesses, inability to breathe comfortably while lying down, and abnormal bowel transmission. The treatment is to rise at cockcrow, change clothes, lie down and calm oneself, engage in slow mutual play, preserve the body, relax the mind, ensure lubrication, and withdraw. The disease heals with divine efficacy. It also cures women's diseases.
Excessive intercourse, sweating like pearls, generating wind inside the quilt during movement, depletion of essence and Qi, and invasion of wind pathogens lead to weakness and limping, with hands unable to reach the head. The treatment is to cherish and nourish the spirit, and take Dihuang Jian (Rehmannia Decoction).
Wu Zidu said: To keep eyes bright, when about to move and ejaculate, tilt the head back, hold breath, shout loudly, look left and right, contract the abdomen to return essence and Qi into the hundred vessels.
To prevent deafness, when about to ejaculate, swallow air deeply, clench teeth and hold breath, causing a buzzing sound in the ears, contract the abdomen again to distribute Qi firmly; one will not go deaf even in old age.
To regulate the five zang organs, digest food, and treat various diseases, when about to act, expand the abdomen, use intention to draw in Qi, contract the rear to prevent essence scattering and return it to the hundred vessels. Use the technique of "nine shallow, one deep," reaching between the strings and wheat teeth (deep vaginal areas), restoring righteous Qi and dispersing pathogenic Qi. To prevent back pain, stretch the waist against a wall, do not bow or arch excessively, keep the waist and back level, allow fluids to flow afterwards; this tonifies deficiency, nourishes the body, treats disease. Do not ejaculate when the urge arises; let Qi flow back, generating heat within the flow.
Furthermore, the way of Yin and Yang values essence as precious. If cherished, life can be preserved. After ejaculation, one should absorb the female's Qi for self-nourishment. "Jian Jiu" refers to internal respiration nine times. "Ya Yi" means pressing below the yin with the left hand to return essence and restore fluids. "Qu Qi" (acquiring Qi) refers to the "nine shallow, one deep" technique. Breathe out through the mouth towards the partner's breath, inhale through the mouth, gently guide the Qi down and swallow, using intention to direct Qi to the abdomen. This aids Yin power. Repeat three times, then become shallow, practicing nine shallow, one deep. Nine times nine equals eighty-one, completing the Yang number. Insert when erect, withdraw when soft; this is weak entry and strong exit. The harmony of Yin and Yang lies between the strings and wheat teeth. Yang is confined below Kunshi, Yin is confined between wheat teeth. Shallow access gains Qi; distant access scatters Qi. Reaching Gushi (deep point) damages the Liver, causing tearing in wind, residual urine. Reaching Choushu (deeper point) damages intestines and Lungs, causing cough, rebellious Qi, back pain. Reaching Kunshi (deepest point) damages the Spleen, causing abdominal fullness, foul odor, frequent diarrhea, thigh pain. Hundred diseases arise from Kunshi; thus, one should not aim too deep during intercourse.
The Yellow Emperor asked: What if these prohibitions are violated? How to treat? Zidu said: Treat with the female. Let the woman lie supine with legs spread nine inches apart. The man approaches, first drinks Wangjiang (royal milk/nourishing drink), waits until essence flows like a spring, then slowly inserts the jade stem, controlling with hand rhythm, aiming precisely for the area between strings and wheat teeth.
If the partner is restless and irritable, maintain control and do not ejaculate. After thirty breaths, when firm, slowly insert to Kunshi. When extremely full and large, withdraw; when normal and weak, re-insert. Maintain weak entry and strong exit. Within ten days, firm as iron, hot as fire, invincible in battle.
