The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: The discussion holds that women have distinct treatment methods from men because of their irregular blood and qi, as well as the specific conditions of pregnancy, childbirth, metrorrhagia (abnormal uterine bleeding), and trauma.
Therefore, diseases in women are ten times more difficult to treat than those in men. If the illness is caused by the seasonal changes of the four seasons, or by patterns of deficiency/excess and cold/heat, the treatment is the same as for men. Only in cases of pregnancy complicated by disease should toxic drugs be avoided.
It further states: Women have more desires than men, and when affected by pathogens, they are twice as likely to fall ill as men. Additionally, due to deep attachments such as affection, love and hate, jealousy, worry, and anger, which are firmly rooted and beyond self-control, the root of the disease becomes deep-seated, making it difficult to cure. Therefore, even wet nurses and attendants (*Fumu*) must study medicine.
The *Duanju Fang* (Short Treatise Formulas) states: In ancient times, women's diseases were easier to treat because they married late, allowing their Kidney Qi to become established, resulting in fewer illnesses and less physical damage. Nowadays, women marry early, before their Kidney roots are established, and suffer kidney damage from childbirth; thus, illnesses in young women today are necessarily difficult to treat. Early marriage and frequent pregnancies may lead to premature death even if no disease is currently present.
The *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Various Diseases) states: Black spots (*zhan*) on a woman's face may arise from phlegm-fluid retention within the Zang-Fu organs, or from wind-pathogen invasion of the skin, leading to irregular blood and qi circulation. If caused by wind invading the skin, external treatment will suffice for recovery; if caused by fluid retention in the Zang-Fu organs, internal treatment is required for healing.
The *Seng Shen Fang* (Monk Shen's Formulas) for treating facial black spots:
Take Poria (*Poria*), grind and sieve it, mix with honey, and apply to the face four to five times daily.
Another formula: Take Peach Kernel (*Persicae Semen*), grind and sieve it, mix with egg white, and apply to the face four to five times daily.
The *Jingxin Fang* (Formulas of the Heart-Mind) for treating facial black spots:
Take Almond powder mixed with egg white, apply overnight, and the spots will fall off.
The *Bingyuan Lun* states: Black moles (*hei zi*) on a woman's face are generated by the interaction and transformation of wind-pathogen and blood/qi.
The *Ruyi Fang* (Formulas of Ruyi) for removing black moles:
Cuttlebone (*Sepiae Endoconcha*), Asarum (*Asari Radix et Rhizoma*), Trichosanthes Fruit (*Trichosanthis Fructus*), Dried Ginger (*Zingiberis Rhizoma*), Sichuan Pepper (*Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*).
Mix equal parts, soak in vinegar for three days, then decoct with one jin (approx. 500g) of Ox Marrow until yellow. Strain and apply to the face to whiten and beautify the complexion, removing black moles. (For formulas regarding facial black moles, see Volume 4 of the Upper Scroll.)
