*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: Excessive heat in the fu and zang organs causes hot qi to rush outward to the skin. When this is combined with external wind-dampness obstructing the flow, and struggles with blood and qi, sores are generated. The manifestation is as follows: initially red and raised, later suppurating with pus, recurring after healing. They may appear on the body, or on the head and face, or both.
*Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: It is treated with Shuiyin Gao (Mercury Ointment). (Note: According to *Jiyao Fang*, this is referred to as Hufen Gao (Lead Carbonate Ointment) under the section for head sores.)
*Ge Shi Fang* (Prescriptions by Ge Hong): Take the sap from the father's tree (likely referring to a specific medicinal plant, textually corrupted as 'KT') to bathe the child. Do not let the child or mother know.
*Fan Wang Fang* (Prescriptions by Fan Wang): For treating infantile head sores and facial sores that worsen over time:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean), roasted and ground into powder in equal parts, mixed with pig fat (Zhigao) and applied.
*Guangli Fang* (Beneficent Prescriptions) for sudden yellowish sores on an infant's face:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (3 fen, powdered), Hufen (Basic Lead Carbonate) (3 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 fen, honey-fried).
These three ingredients are mixed with pig lard (Zhizhi), applied to a cloth, and placed over the sore once daily.
Another prescription: One crucian carp (Jiyu), burned to ash, mixed with soy sauce and applied.
*Jiyan Fang* (Verified Prescriptions) for treating facial sores in infants and young children:
Danzhuyu leaves (Evodiae Fructus leaves), boiled in running water from the east, used for bathing; effective.
*Chan Jing* (Obstetrics Classic) states: Boil the white bark of Wu Zhuyu root (Evodiae Radix) to extract the juice, and wipe/wash with it.
Another prescription: Scrape the bark of the KT tree with a blade, take its juice, and apply to the white lesions three to four times daily.
Current note: Applying Luanshi (Alumen) mixed with wine is particularly effective.
*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Infant tinnitus is caused by wind in the head and brain.
*Chan Jing* Changpu San Prescription:
Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) and Wutou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, prepared), each 4 fen.
These two substances are made into a powder, wrapped in cotton, inserted into the ear, and replaced twice daily.
*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Sores appearing in both ears of infants, recurring intermittently with purulent discharge, are caused by wind-dampness struggling with blood and qi.
*Qianjin Fang* states: Apply ash from burned horse bones.
Another prescription: Apply chicken droppings white part (Jishi Bai).
*Chan Jing* states: For malignant sores and harmful growths in the ears of infants:
Xionghuang (Realgar), Cengqing (Azurite), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
These three ingredients are sifted together and applied into the ear. Plug the ear with cotton. If fluid drains out, reapply; effective.
