According to *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases): Qu Su Chuang (Qu Chu Sores, sores caused by earwig bites) belongs to the category of sores, distinct from Yong Ju (carbuncles and furuncles). It is commonly said that "Qu Su" refers to this condition. It frequently occurs between the limbs, joints, and calves, often appearing symmetrically. The lesions form concentric rings of fine pores resembling needleheads, containing insects within, accompanied by itching and pain. Scratching causes yellow fluid to exude; the condition heals temporarily but recurs repeatedly. These are all caused by wind-pathogens invading the skin, leading to alterations in blood and qi. In some cases, superficial sores fail to heal for a prolonged period. Due to itching and pain, patients scratch them, or they are rubbed by clothing, causing the sores to remain unhealed for a long time and transform into Qu Su Chuang, wherein fine insects grow within the sores.
*Seng Shen Fang* (Prescriptions of Monk Shen) for treating Qu Su sores, scabies, carbuncles, and various other sores on the faces of men and women:
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix, 15 pieces), Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper Fructus Zanthoxyli, 1 sheng), Yege (Aristolochia debilis Radix, 1 chi 5 cun, heart removed).
The above three herbs are cut into small pieces, soaked in vinegar overnight, then added with 2 sheng of lard (Su Gao). Boil until Fuzi yields a yellow ointment. Apply to the sores. This formula also treats Shang Han (Cold Damage Syndrome) and undigested food retention. Take orally with wine, in doses the size of a jujube, and cover with blankets to induce sweating.
*Luo Yan Fang* (Verified Records Prescriptions) for treating Qu Su sores with insects and itching, Fuzi San Powder:

*Duan Ji Fang* (Short Drama Prescriptions) states: When bitten by a viper (Fu She), illness ensues after resting. The symptom is sudden, intense pain in a specific area of the body. The pain feels like thorns pricking, similar to insect stings. Subsequently, fine rashes appear, clustering like fruits of the Chinese cornel (Zhu Yu). The edges of the rash are red, with white pus centers resembling millet grains. This also causes rapid swelling of skin and flesh, aversion to cold, and high fever. In severe cases, the rash spreads continuously across the waist, hypochondrium, chest, and back.
At the initial stage, immediately rub rhinoceros horn (Rhinocerotis Cornu) with water and apply to stop the toxicity. Treat according to the method for Huo Dan (Fire Carbuncle) and using single herbal remedies.
It is also stated: When bitten by a viper, before the sore appears, the sensation resembles an attack by the She Gong (Shooting Arrow bug). She Gong sores typically present as a single dark/black lesion. Viper bites present as clustered lesions. The pain differs slightly due to small rashes, but it is not a fatal disease.
