The *Treatise on the Pathogenesis of Various Diseases* states: Anal pruritus is caused by weak stomach qi and empty intestines, allowing pinworms to descend and invade the anus. In severe cases, the worms feed within the anal canal; in mild cases, there is merely itching.
The *Ge's Formulas* for treating lower region (referring to the genital and anal areas) pruritus and pain, feeling as if bitten by insects:
Mix lead carbonate (Hu Fen) and mercury with jujube paste, wrap in cotton, and insert as a suppository.
Another formula: Roast almonds until black, pound into a paste, and apply topically.
Another formula: Burn high-nosed dung beetles (*Scarabaeus*) into powder, wrap in cotton, and insert into the anal orifice; large intestinal worms will be expelled.
Another formula: Pound one hu of peach leaves, steam them, place in a vessel with a small opening, and have the patient sit over it until the worms die.
The *Lu Yan Formulas*: If the lower region suffers from pruritus and pain as if bitten by insects:
Take one sheng of adzuki beans and five sheng of good sour wine. Boil the beans until cooked, remove and dry them, then return them to the wine until the wine is absorbed. Grind into powder, take one cun bi (a square inch measure) with wine, three times daily.
The *Xu Bo Formulas* for sudden anal pruritus and pain with swelling and protrusion resembling flesh tags:
Bark of the pagoda tree (*Styphnolobium japonicum*, Liu Liang), Licorice root (*Gan Cao*, San Liang).
Boil these two ingredients in soybean juice, soak an old cloth in it, and apply to the affected area. Replace when cool.
The *Newly Recorded Single Formulas* for anal pruritus caused by worms:
Three sheng of mugwort (*Ai Ye*), five sheng of water. Boil to obtain two sheng of decoction, divide into two doses.
Another formula: Roast various meats until fragrant, use for hot compresses (fumigation/irrigation); the worms will emerge.
The *Ji Yao Formulas* for sudden cold-induced pain and oppression in the lower region:
Heat bricks until red, splash with strong vinegar, cover with three layers of cloth, and sit upon them until cured. (Same as in the *Qian Jin Fang*).

Another formula: Take almonds, roast until yellow, pound into a lipid-like paste, and apply.
The *Treatise on the Pathogenesis of Various Diseases* states: The "grain passage" (anus) is the external manifestation of the Large Intestine. Deficient heat in the Large Intestine causes qi to rush and knot at the anus, thus leading to sores.
The *Ge's Formulas* for sudden sores in the lower region:
Pound larvae of the cockchafer (*Qi Lao*) and apply topically.
Another formula: Boil fermented soybeans (*Chi*), and use the infusion to soak the area.
