According to *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases), Shi Wan disease (dampness-worm disease) is caused by the deficiency and weakness of the Spleen and Stomach, allowing Water-Dampness pathogenic factors to invade. The worms within the abdomen move and erode the body tissues.
*Lu Yan Fang* (Verified Records Formulas) provides a formula for treating sores in the lower part caused by Shi Wan:
Fum Facultatum (Lead Carbonate), Hydrargyrum (Mercury), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai).
These three substances are ground into fine powders in equal proportions. They are mixed and ground together until the Mercury dissipates. The powder is then applied to the sores.
Another prescription: Frequently roast and eat pig large intestine; this is beneficial.
Another prescription: Warm urine until hot, add small Alum crystals, and use it to wash the affected area.
*Ji Yan Fang* (Collected Verified Formulas) provides the Xingren Decoction (Almond Decoction) for treating Enterobius vermicularis (pinworms):
Semen Armeniacae Amarum (Xingren, 50 seeds), Acetum (Kuju/Vinegar, 3 sheng), Sal (Yan/Salt, 1 he).
Boil until 5 he of liquid remains. Take all at once.
*Li Fang* provides the Gualou Powder (Trichosanthes Root Powder) for treating Enterobius vermicularis and pinworms eroding the lower orifice:
Radix Trichosanthis (Gualougen, 4 liang), Semen Lepidii/Turbinatae (Tinglizi, 4 fen).
These two substances are ground, mixed, and sifted. Soak them in Mugwort juice, wrap in cotton, and insert into the lower orifice. Change three times daily.
*Ge Shi Fang* provides a formula for treating anal sores with redness, pain, and itching:
Roast Almonds until black, crush them, wrap in cotton, and insert as a suppository.
Another prescription: Powder the bark of Sophora japonica (Huai pi), peach tree bark (Tao pi), and Melia azedarach fruit (Lian zi). Mix and pound with Pig Fat (Zhugao).
Another prescription: Roast Cuscuta Seed (Tusizi) until yellow-black. Mix with Chicken Egg Yolk, apply, and insert as a suppository.
Another prescription: Mix Date Paste (Zaogao) with Mercury until well combined. Shape into a suppository three cun long. Wrap in cotton and insert into the lower orifice overnight.
Another prescription: Equal parts of Fum Facultatum (Hufen) and Realgar (Xionghuang) are powdered and inserted into the lower orifice.
*Fan Wang Fang* provides a formula for treating anal sores with redness, pain, and itching:
Crush leeches or eel intestines (Shan chang - note: context suggests animal tissue used medicinally), apply to cotton shaped like a finger, and insert into the anus to expel worms.
*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: People who consume excessive sweet flavors agitate the various worms in the intestines and stomach, causing them to erode the fu-organs and zang-organs. This still belongs to Shi Wan disease. However, the worms are attracted by sweetness and prefer to feed on blood;
It also states: Among the five types of Gan disorders, one is Bai Gan (White Gan), which causes dry and rough skin and loss of luster to the face. Another is Chi Gan (Red Gan), which internally erodes the Five Zang organs, causing hair to become brittle and dry.
Contraction of the waist and spine
It also states: A blueish complexion with red cheeks, eyes lacking spirit, dry and cracked lips and mouth, abdominal distension with masses, and progressive emaciation indicate Gan disorder. It erodes the Five Zang organs, and the patient remains unaware until death.
It also states: The five types of Gan Huan (slackening Gan) conditions can transform into Wu Zheng (Five Steaming) disorders.
*Qianjin Fang* (Thousand Golden Prescriptions) states in its discussion: Generally, Gan Shi diseases are caused by consuming rich, fatty, and oily foods during the hot summer months and sleeping while exposed to cold. As stated in *The Book of Rites*:
It also states: For treating Gan Shi where the lower part turns black, which doctors cannot cure, and the patient is near death, use this formula:
Moschus (Shexiang, 3 fen), Caryophylli Flos (Dingzixiang/Clove, 3 fen), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 3 fen), Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xijiao/Rhino Horn, 3 fen).
Grind these four ingredients into fine powder and mix well. Separately, boil Salt (3 he), Zanthoxyli Fructus (Jiao/Pepper, 3 he), and Fabae Fermentatae (Chi/Soybean Ferment, 2 he) in 2 sheng of water until 1 sheng remains. Strain out the dregs and add the powder to the liquid.
It also states: Avoid raw, cold, sour, and slippery foods. For thirty days, strictly avoid oily foods, sauces, and dairy products. This is highly recommended.
It also states: For all Gan disorders, general dietary restrictions apply. Only white rice, salt, fermented soybeans (Chi), alfalfa (Muxu), bitter beans (Kudou), and turnips (Wujing) are not restricted.
*Lu Yan Fang* provides a formula for treating Gan Shi:
Celosiae Semen (Qingxiang, 2 liang), Sophorae Radicis Cortex (Kushen, 2 liang), Realgar (Xionghuang, 2 liang), Pomegranate Peel (Shiliuhuang, 2 liang), Wild Wolf's Tooth Herb (Yelangya, 3 liang), Pruni Semen (Wuyi, 2 liang), Polyporus Umbellatus (Leiwuan).
These eight substances are crushed and sifted. Form pills the size of almonds and insert them into the lower orifice.
*Yi Men Fang* provides a treatment for Gan Shi regardless of location:
Burn dead toads to ash. Mix with good vinegar and apply to the sores. Healing will occur immediately.
*Jiu Ji Dan Yan Fang* provides a treatment for acute Anconia (clam/worm issue):
Blow Noogall Powder (Wuzishi mo) into the patient's lower orifice. Immediate effect is observed.
Another prescription: Administer one sheng of white horse urine. The worms will be expelled; this is effective.
Another prescription: Burn Clam Shell (Wenge) to ash. Mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month and apply topically.
Another prescription: Calcined Alum (Lian Fanshi), Cinnamon Heart (Guixin), and Cynanchum Paniculatum (Xuchangqing) in equal parts. Grind into powder and apply topically. Effective.
