*The Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of Various Diseases) states: In cholera-like disease presenting with fullness and distension in the heart and abdomen, this is caused by cold pathogenic factors clashing with the Qi of the Zang-Fu organs. The healthy Qi and evil pathogen attack each other, preventing vomiting or diarrhea, thereby causing fullness and distension in the heart and abdomen.
*Ge Shi Fang* (Prescriptions from Master Ge) treats cholera-like disease with heart and abdominal distension and pain, irritability, chest fullness, shortness of breath, where vomiting has not yet occurred: Fresh Ginger Rhizome (Shengjiang), approximately one to two *sheng*, with five to six *sheng* of water, boiled for three boils, taken in one dose. If not immediately cured, it may be prepared and taken again.
Another prescription: Cinnamon Twig powder (Guixie), half a *sheng*, mixed with warm drink, taken entirely.
Yet another prescription: Place salt into the umbilicus (Shenque, CV8), and moxibustion applied over the salt for fourteen moxa cones (zhuang).
It also states: For treating bitter irritability and chest fullness: Moxibustion applied to Xin Shu (BL15) for fourteen moxa cones.
It also states: For treating irritability, vomiting, and abdominal distension, the Magnolia Bark Decoction (Nongpo Tang):
Magnolia Bark (Nongpo, four *liang*)
Cinnamon Twig (Gui, two *liang*)

Fresh Ginger Rhizome (Shengjiang, three *liang*)
With six *sheng* of water, decoct to obtain two *sheng*, divided into three doses.

Gardenia Fruit (Zhizi, fourteen pieces)
Cinnamon Heart (Guixin, one *liang*)
Prepared Soybean Paste (Xiangchi, five *ge*)
These four substances are crushed, dissolved in two *sheng* of wine, filtered to remove dregs, and taken in one dose. (Commentary: *Lu Yan Fang* records that the number of *lei* for ginger is based on one piece of ginger constituting one *lei*.)
