*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: Wind-toxin swelling initially presents with redness, pain, and sudden heat. Blisters form on the swollen area, resembling burns from fire.
*Duanju Fang* (Short-Script Formulas) states: When wind and heat-toxin struggle against each other causing swelling, characterized by initial redness, swelling, heat, and pain, with blisters appearing on the swelling as if scorched by fire, it is named wind-heat-toxin. It should be treated according to the methods for treating erysipelas (Dan Du).
*Ge Shi Fang* (Formulas by Master Ge) provides a formula for wind-toxin attacking the whole body, causing gradual swelling:
Raw Sophorae Radix (Kushen), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Changpu Gen), and Sanbai Root.
Chop them, using one dou of each. Boil in fifteen shi of water until one dou remains. Remove the dregs and add one sheng of good wine. Take half a sheng warm, three times daily. Additionally, wash the body with this decoction.
*Jiyao Fang* (Essential Formulas) provides a formula to dissipate initial wind-toxin swelling:
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, two liang), Lepidii Semen Tinglizi (two liang, stir-baked), Tetrapanacis Medulla (Tongcao, two liang), and Asari Folium (Mangcao, two liang).
Grind the above into powder. Mix with water and apply to the swollen area. Replace when dry; it is highly effective.
*Qipo Fang* (Formulas by Qibo) treats human wind-swelling occurring intermittently on the skin surface:
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, three liang), Ye Gan (two liang), Xi Yao (two liang).
Cut these three ingredients. Boil in three sheng of water until one sheng remains. Divide into three doses.
*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: Wind-swelling has no head or root, floats on the skin surface like an inflated sac, is neither red nor painful, moves without fixed location, and is accompanied by itching. It arises because the couli (pores and interstices) are deficient and exposed to wind.
*Ge Shi Fang* states: Generally, toxin-swelling is mostly painful, while wind-swelling is mostly itchy. Pressing causes it to rise immediately. Conditions such as prickly heat, scrofula, and hidden rashes all belong to wind-swelling. Treatment method:
Have someone massage the area to suppress it; pressing hundreds of times will cause it to subside naturally.
Another formula: Stir-fried Bombyx Batryticatus (Can Shi/Cansha) wrapped in cloth with salt for hot compress.
Another formula: Rub with vinegar, or apply crushed Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) or Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Du Huo).
Another formula: Soak Ficus pumila leaves (Qiuye) in water and wrap the swollen area.
Another formula: Incise with a pi knife to drain toxic blood, then it will heal.
*Jingxin Fang* provides a Bai Lian paste formula for treating wind-swelling, toxic nodules, carbuncles, and sores:
Ampelopsis Radix (Bailian, two liang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, half liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, half liang), Xi Yao (one liang), Astragali Radix (Huangqi, one liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, one liang), Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, half liang), and Halloysit Rubra (Chishizhi, two liang).
Grind these eight ingredients into powder. Mix with egg white and congee, apply to paper, and paste onto the affected area. Replace when dry.
*Benzao* (Materia Medica) states: Apply oil from Ricinus communis seeds (Zuo Bima Zi) to the area.
