The *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Diseases) states: If food is consumed to excess, the Spleen cannot grind and digest it, leading to rapid breathing, mental restlessness, and disturbed sleep.
The *Yimen Fang* (Medical Gate Formulas) states: A formula for treating excessive eating with indigestion, characterized by hardness and pain in the heart and abdomen:
Take one sheng of salt and three sheng of water, boil until the salt dissolves completely. Divide into three doses. The patient should vomit up the food, after which the illness will resolve.
The *Jingxin Fang* records formulas for various types of undigested food:
Take the residue of similar remaining food, burn it to ash/powder, and administer a measure of "fangcun bi" (a square-inch scoop); vomiting will follow.
The *Yangsheng Yaoji* (Essentials for Health Preservation) states: A formula for ordinary people suffering from overeating:
One can chew raw radish roots and swallow them to aid digestion. Alternatively, crush and drink the juice.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Formulas by Master Ge) treats cases of overeating causing mental agitation, desire to sleep, and abdominal distension:
Roast flour until slightly fragrant, pound it, and administer a measure of "fangcun bi." Using barley or raw flour is better. If flour is unavailable, buckwheat can be used.
The *Xinlu Fang* (Newly Recorded Formulas) treats illness caused by food injury and fullness, with stomach distension and chest fullness:
Drink three sheng of boiling water mixed with raw water. The patient should vomit up the food.

The *Bingyuan Lun* states: Excessive drinking causes wine toxins to soak into the intestines and stomach. Flowing into the meridians, it fills the blood vessels, causing irritability, toxic heat, confusion, incessant vomiting, and even days-long unconsciousness. Often, perforations occur in the abdomen and back. This is caused by the hot toxic qi of wine, so it is necessary to shake the body to dissipate it.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Thousand Gold Formulas) states: Inducing vomiting quickly after drinking is best.
The *Ge Shi Fang* states: For severe drunkenness, one should not lie supine; instead, have someone repeatedly shake and turn the body.
It also states: Do not fan oneself in the wind, do not sit/lie on the ground, wash with water, or drink water. Sexual intercourse is most taboo.
It also states: Zhang Hua drank nine-fold brewed wine and always had someone shake his body to sober him up; otherwise, his intestines would rot and pierce through his back to the mat.
The *Yangsheng Yaoji* treats severe drunkenness with unbearable irritability and toxic heat:
Cook turnip greens and millet in water until done, remove the dregs, and drink the chilled liquid to resolve intoxication. This formula is the best.
Another formula: Make porridge from japonica rice, take the juice, chill it, and drink it; this is good.
It also states: Boil adzuki beans, take one sheng of the juice, chill it, and drink it to resolve intoxication.
It also states: Crush fresh kudzu root, wring out the juice, and drink it.
The *Jiyan Fang* (Collected Proven Formulas) treats severe drunkenness where the patient feels like dying, fearing intestinal rot:
Soak the patient in a large vessel filled with warm water; change the water when it cools. (Current commentary: The *Ge Shi Fang* states that using warm water in summer is harmless.)
The *Luyan Fang* (Recorded Proven Formulas) treats severe drunkenness:
Boiling cabbage juice for drinking is best, though people often despise it because it is too common/easy.

Take freshwater shrimp, clams, snails, or mussels, boil them with fermented soybeans (chi), eat as usual, and also drink the broth.
