The *Seven-Volume Food Classic* states: For any birds that die naturally, if their mouths are not closed and wings are not folded together, consuming them is fatal.
It further states: If the feet of dead birds cannot be straightened, consuming them will cause injury.
It also states: Any bird or beast that dies from being roasted by fire should not be consumed, as it is fatal.
It further states: Birds possessing "mi" hair (a specific type of coarse feather) must not be eaten. (Consuming this hair results in a lack of bodily nourishment, hence termed "mi".)
It also states: Any bird or beast whose feathers display natural patterns or textures should not be consumed, as it is lethal.
It further states: Wild birds that actively fly into human arms must not be eaten. This behavior may indicate they are fond of holding objects in their mouths; if none are found, pluck their feathers and release them.
It also states: Birds with three feet, or chickens with four spurs on their two feet, are fatal to consume.
The *Shanfu Jing* (Classic of the Imperial Cooks) states: Birds that die with their eyes unable to close are fatal to consume.
It further states: Eggs displaying patterns resembling the character "eight" are fatal to consume.
It also states: Any bird eggs with markings are fatal to consume.
The *Food Classic* states: Regardless of size, any fish with red or black spots on its body should not be eaten, as it causes injury.
It further states: One must not eat raw fish with red eyes, as this leads to the formation of jia masses (abdominal lumps).
It also states: Fish with white bodies and yellow heads cause injury when consumed.
It further states: Fish possessing horns must not be eaten, as they cause injury.
It also states: Fish with gill-like structures in their heads must not be eaten, as they are fatal.
It further states: Fish with cloudy or protruding eyes cause injury when consumed.
It also states: Fish with eyes of different colors cause injury when consumed.
It further states: Fish that die with both eyes remaining open cause injury when consumed.
It also states: Fish with markings resembling the character "dan" (cinnabar/red) on their bellies cause injury when consumed.
It further states: Fish with scales growing in reverse order are fatal to consume.
It also states: Fish intestines lacking gallbladders are fatal to consume.
It further states: Fish containing white, paste-like substances in their bellies induce ju diseases (severe suppurative infections) upon consumption.
It also states: Fish with straight white lines on their heads, resembling a string of beads extending to the spine, destroy the heart spirit and cause death when consumed.
It further states: Immature fish roe causes injury when consumed. (This refers to fish carrying undeveloped roe in granular form during the first lunar month.)
It also states: Raw fish meat that does not attract dust or debris when thrown on the ground causes injury when consumed.
It further states: Consuming large amounts of fish kuai (thinly sliced raw fish) and other cold/raw foods damages the body. It is best to abstain entirely. If abstinence is impossible, one must strictly limit intake. Indigestion from excessive consumption can lead to jia masses.
It also states: Eating fish while swallowing the "yan bone" is detrimental to health. (The yan bone is located behind the carp's tail, roughly the size of a elm seed.)
It also states: Shrimp lacking "bin" (side whiskers/features) and having uniformly black undersides are fatal to consume.
It further states: Flying insects with red legs are fatal to consume.
It also states: Flying insects with three legs are fatal to consume.
The *Shanfu Jing* states: When eating fish heads, one must not swallow the "yi bone," as it is detrimental. (Current analysis: The *Book of Rites* states: Remove the yi bone from fish. Zheng Xuan comments: This is the harmful part within the fish body. Currently, KT fish in the East Sea have bones near the eyes shaped like the seal script character "yi"; consuming them causes choking as they cannot be removed.)
