Pulse signs of Spleen deficiency: The pulse forbids sinking and minute qualities. A slow pulse is easy to treat; a choppy and small pulse is often difficult. Pulse shape like pouring lacquer indicates Spleen failure and danger. A string-taut and strong pulse indicates that warming the Middle is the precise method. Cold is incorrect.
Lung Disease, Cough, Lung Abscess, Lung Flaccidity, Asthma, Wheezing, Aphonia, Throat Syndrome: Four Formulas for Treatment
The Lung is the official of transmission. Governance and regulation emerge from it. Its qi is clear. Its nature is fragile. Its structure is light and floating. In seasons, it corresponds to Autumn. In Bagua, it belongs to Dui. It inherits the qi of the West.
It states that Asthma (Chuan Zheng) and Wheezing (Xiao Zheng) are slightly different. Asthma in the Lung is Excess, in the Kidney is Deficiency. Wheezing occurs because pathogenic factors were contracted but not released via the exterior; the pathogen lies hidden internally and remains at the Shu-stream point of the Lung. Treatment of these two syndromes does not exceed two methods: Opening and Grasping. Opening uses agents of Qinglong (Green Dragon Decoction type). Grasping uses agents of Duqi (Duqi Pill type). As for pathogen lingering without departing, brewing into Lung Abscess. Fire scorching Metal injury, leading to Lung Flaccidity. As for Aphonia, all are syndromes of Fire overcoming Metal injury. One must consider Deficiency and Excess. Caused by Deficient Fire punishing Metal: Broken Metal makes no sound. Caused by Pathogenic Heat scorching Metal: Solid Metal makes no sound. Excess is drained. Deficiency is tonified. There is also Earth decline failing to generate Metal. One should cultivate Earth so Metal generates itself. In summary, treating Cough requires descending Lung Qi. Treating Asthma requires opening Lung Qi and calming the Spleen, grasping the Kidney. Treating Wheezing requires warming and nourishing Qi to search out and expel pathogens. Regarding Lung Abscess treatment, detoxification to protect the Lung is suitable. Regarding Lung Flaccidity treatment, nourishing the Kidney to clear the Lung is suitable. All do not exceed the principles of tonifying the Mother when Deficient, draining the Child when Excess. With pathogen: clear it. Without pathogen: tonify it. Furthermore, the *Neijing* regarding cough distinguishes the shapes of the twelve meridians. There are distinctions of Spleen Cough, Heart Cough, Lung Cough, Liver Cough, Kidney Cough. There are also Small Intestine Cough, Large Intestine Cough, Stomach Cough, Bladder Cough, Gallbladder Cough, Sanjiao Cough. It also says prolonged cough unceasingly then Sanjiao receives it. Thus knowing "Sanjiao" already encompasses the twelve meridians. Examining *Neijing* reveals details clearly, so not discussed fully. Regarding Lung Abscess treatment, nothing is better than Peng Zhongling's Modified Glycyrrhiza and Platycodon Decoction (Jiegeng Tang). Regarding Lung Flaccidity treatment, nothing is better than Peng's Baohe Tang. And distinguishing Aphonia must use Gong, Shang, Jue, Zhi, Yu five tones to clarify diseases of Spleen, Lung, Liver, Heart, Kidney. Also, singing belongs to Spleen, crying belongs to Lung, calling belongs to Liver, laughing belongs to Heart, groaning belongs to Kidney sounds, to refer to among them. Praising strict methods and simple treatments, none surpasses Ye Tianshi's Guide. In his medical cases, if there is pathogen, open and diffuse Lung Qi; if no pathogen, primarily fill and solidify the Foot Three Yin Meridians. His treatment of Lung Flaccidity follows the *Jinkui Yaolue* Mai Men Dong...
