麻黄 杏仁 甘草 桂枝
天寒腠密，表热壮盛者，此方主之。
解表之药有三品，辛凉、辛温、辛热也。夏月表气易泄，宜用辛凉。春秋表气平调，宜
用辛温。若天寒之时，表气闭密，辛凉、辛温不能解散，故以麻黄、桂枝之辛热者以主之，
亦各当其可而已。佐以杏仁，利其气也。佐以甘草，和其气也。
人参 白术 甘草 细辛 白茯苓 天花粉 白芍药 桔梗（各七分）
发热之初，未明是痘，形体怯弱者，此方主之。
人参、白术、茯苓、甘草，防其虚也。乃细辛、桔梗，所以疏其阳。天花粉、白芍药，
所以和其阴。
天麻 麻黄 荆芥穗 全蝎 薄荷 紫草 蝉蜕 等分
风热惊搐者，以此药调抱龙丸。
痘之出也，自内达外。心热则惊，肝热则搐；所以搐者风也。所以惊者热也。是方也，
麻黄、荆芥、薄荷、天麻、全蝎、蝉蜕，所以消风解热。乃紫草者，所以解毒发痘而活血也。
天竺黄（一两） 胆南星（二两） 辰砂（五钱，水飞七次） 雄黄 琥珀 珍珠（各
三钱） 麝香（二钱五分） 檀香 人参（各二钱） 木香 沉香（各一钱） 金箔（二十
叶）
甘草汁为丸，如大豆大。每服一丸，婴儿半丸。
痘前发惊者，此方主之。
明者可以安神，故用琥珀、珍珠。重者可以去怯，故用辰砂、金箔。气窜可以利窍，故
用雄黄、沉、檀、木、麝。甘温可以固元，故用人参。辛燥可使开痰，故用南星。寒凉可使
清热，故用竺黄。
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 杏仁), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂枝).
When the weather is cold and the pores are closed tightly, with intense heat at the exterior, this formula is indicated.
Exterior-resolving medicines are categorized into three grades: acrid-cool, acrid-warm, and acrid-hot. In summer, the qi of the exterior is prone to leakage, so acrid-cool medicines are appropriate. In spring and autumn, the qi of the exterior is balanced and harmonious, so acrid-warm medicines are appropriate. However, during cold weather, when the qi of the exterior is closed and dense, acrid-cool and acrid-warm medicines cannot resolve the pathogen; therefore, acrid-hot medicines such as Mahuang and Guizhi are used to treat it, each fitting its specific indication. Armeniacae Semen Amarum is added as an assistant to benefit the movement of Qi. Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma is added as an assistant to harmonize the Qi.
Ginseng Radix (Renshen, 人参), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), Asari Radix (Xixin, 细辛), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), Trichosanthis Radix (Tianhuafen, 天花粉), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 白芍药), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 桔梗) (each 0.7 fen).
At the initial stage of fever, before the diagnosis of smallpox/variolous eruption is confirmed, in patients with a weak constitution, this formula is indicated.
Ginseng Radix, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Poria, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma are used to prevent deficiency. Asari Radix and Platycodonis Radix are used to disperse Yang Qi. Trichosanthis Radix and Paeoniae Radix Alba are used to harmonize Yin Qi.
Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tianma, 天麻), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingshe Sui, 荆芥穗), Scorpio (Quanxie, 全蝎), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe, 薄荷), Lithospermi Radix et Rhizoma (Zicao, 紫草), equal parts.
For cases of wind-heat causing fright and convulsions, this medicine is used to mix with Bao Long Wan (Emperor Dragon Pill).
The eruption of variolous eruptions proceeds from the interior to the exterior. Heat in the Heart causes fright; heat in the Liver causes convulsions. The cause of convulsions is wind; the cause of fright is heat. In this formula, Ephedrae Herba, Schizonepetae Spica, Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, Gastrodiae Rhizoma, Scorpio, and Bombyx Batryticatus (Chantui, 蝉蜕) are used to eliminate wind and resolve heat. Lithospermi Radix et Rhizoma is used to resolve toxicity, promote the eruption of variolous eruptions, and invigorate blood circulation.
Bambusae Tabula (Tianzhuhuang, 天竺黄) (1 liang), Arisaematis Cum Bile (Dannanxing, 胆南星) (2 liang), Cinnabaris (Chensha, 辰砂) (5 qian, prepared by water levigation seven times), Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄), Succinum (Hupo, 琥珀), Margarita (Zhenzhu, 珍珠) (each 3 qian), Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香) (2.5 qian), Santali Albi Lignum (Tanxiang, 檀香), Ginseng Radix (Renshen, 人参) (each 2 qian), Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang, 木香), Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang, 沉香) (each 1 qian), Folium Auricum (Jinbo, 金箔) (20 leaves).
Made into pills with licorice juice, sized like soybeans. Take one pill per dose; infants take half a pill.
For cases where fright occurs prior to the eruption of variolous eruptions, this formula is indicated.
Clear substances can calm the Spirit, hence Succinum and Margarita are used. Heavy substances can dispel fear, hence Cinnabaris and Folium Auricum are used. Substances with penetrating aromas can open orifices, hence Realgar, Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, Santali Albi Lignum, Aucklandiae Radix, and Moschus are used. Sweet-warm substances can consolidate the Primordial Qi, hence Ginseng Radix is used. Acrid-dry substances can resolve phlegm, hence Arisaematis Cum Bile is used. Cold-cool substances can clear heat, hence Bambusae Tabula is used.
