Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus).
This formula is indicated for cases where the smallpox rash has emerged but the eruption points are incomplete.
If the exterior qi is not dispersed, the eruption will be incomplete; therefore, Qianghuo, Chaihu, Qianhu, and Chuanxiong are used to disperse the exterior. If the interior qi is not unobstructed, the eruption will not be rapid; therefore, Banxia, Fuling, Chenpi, Gancao, and Jiegeng are used to regulate the interior. Danggui invigorates the blood to harmonize the blood in the exterior and interior, while Shanzha eliminates stagnation in the exterior and interior. Once the blood flows freely and stagnation is resolved, the emergence of the smallpox becomes easy.
Zicao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix, 2 qian), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 1.5 qian), Baishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, stir-fried with wine), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, each 0.5 qian).
This formula is indicated for cases where weak qi results in incomplete smallpox eruption.
Renshen and Gancao can tonify qi and supplement the middle jiao. Zicao and Mutong can penetrate the muscle layer and promote the eruption of smallpox. Shengma and Chantui can reduce fever and dissipate wind.
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 3 qian).
This formula is indicated for soreness and swelling of the throat.
The sweetness of Gancao clears excess fire and supplements deficient fire. The bitterness of Jiegeng clears heat from the throat and drains qi-level heat.

This formula is suitable for cases where smallpox has erupted or not yet erupted, accompanied by heat obstruction and discomfort.
Zicao invigorates collaterals and opens orifices, promotes blood circulation, and transforms toxins. Chenpi moves the chest and benefits the diaphragm, resolves phlegm, and regulates qi. Shengma dissipates wind and disperses sores and ulcers. Gancao tonifies deficiency, harmonizes the middle, and relieves heat.
