归脾汤专治心脾,阴中之阳药。故不用地黄、白芍。后人加作黑归脾,殊失立方之旨矣。

Huangqi (Astragali Radix, roasted) 1 liang, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed with wine) 2 qian. Take on an empty stomach.
In Danggui Buxue Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), the dosage of Huangqi is five times that of Danggui, aiming specifically to treat Qi-level disorders; yet one might still worry about causing fullness in the middle jiao. If it is claimed to be a formula for nourishing blood, the proportion of heavy and light agents requires careful deliberation.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried with soil), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosomi Semen, stir-fried), Longyanrou (Longan Aril) 2 qian, Huangqi (Astragali Radix, roasted) 1.5 qian, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed with wine) 1 qian, Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted) 0.5 qian, Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix) 1 qian.
Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) specifically treats the Heart and Spleen; it is a Yang medicine within Yin. Therefore, Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) are not used. Later generations modified it into Hei Guipi Tang (Black Restore the Spleen Decoction), which completely deviates from the original intent of the prescription.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix, honey-roasted), Fuling (Poria), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed with wine), Banxiaqu (Pinelliae Rhizoma Fermentatum), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 1 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted) 1 qian, Baiziren (Platycladi Semen, oil removed), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosomi Semen, stir-fried), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, heart removed), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 2.5 qian.
Take 5 qian per dose.
This formula contains a majority of herbs targeting the Heart Meridian, while the remaining assisting and guiding herbs cooperate effectively to direct the medicinal action into the Heart. Hence, it is named "Yangxin" (Nourishing the Heart); the formulation carries profound significance.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, honey-roasted), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, mixed with wine) 1 qian, Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, stir-fried) 0.7 qian, Fuling (Poria) 0.5 qian, Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix) 0.5 qian, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1.5 qian.
Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
This is actually a formula that tonifies all three Yin meridians simultaneously and mutually nourishes Qi and Blood. The annotations only mention treating the Spleen and Lung meridians, which is incomplete. Critics who merely debate whether it involves the Lung or not are focusing on trivial matters.
Jisu Ye (Elsholtziae Herba) 1.6 liang, Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) 6 qian, Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) 4 qian, Puhuang (Typhae Pollen, stir-fried), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, stir-fried), Yinchaihu (Stellariae Radix) 2 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Huangqi (Astragali Radix) 1 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Radix) 1 qian.
First, soak Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) for two days, then decoct to extract the juice; soak Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) to extract its juice and decoct into a paste; then add 3 liang of honey, refine it, and mix to form pills.
To clear stagnant heat and drain damp-fire, this formula is excellent. However, Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) available nowadays should absolutely not be used; the dosages of Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Huangqi (Astragali Radix) should also be further reduced appropriately to achieve perfection.
