Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex) 1 jin, Digupi (Lycii Cortex) 3 jin (decocted together), Shengdizhi (Rehmanniae Radix Express Juice) 5 sheng, Maidongzhi (Ophiopogonis Radix Express Juice) 2 sheng, Sheng Gegenzhi (Puerariae Radix Express Juice), Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia Succus) 3 sheng, Shengjiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Express Juice), Baimi (Mel) 1 sheng, Zaogao (Jujubae Fructus Paste) 1 sheng, Niusu (Bovis Medulla) 3 he.
This prescription has the power to clear the lungs, resolve phlegm, remove heat, and stop coughing. However, for those with long-term deficiency, it may cause loose stools due to its lubricating nature. One might add Fuling (Poria), Huaiyao (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), and Yiren (Coicis Semen) to strengthen the spleen earth to generate lung metal.
Baimi (Mel) 2 jin, Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 2 jin (express juice).
First, weigh the copper pot to know its weight. Add the honey and ginger juice, simmer over low heat until the ginger juice is completely evaporated and only the weight of the honey remains, then stop. Take one pill the size of a jujube by holding it in the mouth each time, taken three times a day.
It can be used for those with latent cold in the lungs causing persistent chronic cough. It is not suitable for those with yin deficiency.
Zhuzhi (Porci Adeps) and Shengjiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Express Juice) each 2 sheng (simmed down to 3 sheng, then add wine), Jiu (Vinum) 5 he.
Divide into three doses.
There is merely this one method; if one hopes to achieve efficacy with it, I fear it will not work.
Huomaren (Semen Cannabis) and Zisuzi (Perillae Fructus) in equal parts.
Wash clean, grind together, then use water to grind and extract the juice to cook porridge and drink.
For deficiency of qi and blood where purgatives are contraindicated, this method of moistening and guiding is most appropriate.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), and Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) in equal parts.
This is a formula for treating excess pathogens and excess fire, where both exterior and interior are full. Thus, Huangqin is used to drain lung fire, Huanglian to drain heart fire, Huangbai to drain kidney fire, and Zhizi is added to gently direct the heat pathogen from the upper jiao downward. It treats all three jiao, and the medicinal force is quite potent. For cases with heat in both exterior and interior, chest oppression, constipation, and delirium, certain herbs should be removed while the heat will also subside. Careful differentiation is required.
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1 liang, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 1 liang, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 liang, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 1 piece (peeled).
In shaoyin disease, the palpable fullness is located in the heart and chest rather than the stomach; therefore, the "Three Yellows" (Huanglian, Huangqin, Dahuang) are used to relieve palpable fullness and eliminate heat. However, aversion to cold and sweating indicate that yang qi is also deficient; thus, Fuzi is used to warm the kidney and secure yang. The combination of cold and hot properties has profound meaning; who but Zhang Zhongjing could have devised this?
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 0.5 sheng, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 1 liang, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle) (roasted), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) 3 liang, Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 3 liang, Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) 12 pieces.
This is prescribed for chest oppression resulting from improper use of purgative methods. Yang pathogenic factors are constrained in the upper jiao; since they cannot descend nor exit through the hair pores, only bitter-cold methods to clear heat can resolve the oppression and dispel the pathogen. Furthermore, fearing that after the removal of yang pathogens, turbid yin might ascend, acrid-warm herbs are incorporated into the clearing and draining formula to preemptively prevent subsequent complications. This is what is meant by...
