Bie Jia (Turtle Shell, vinegar-fried) Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, earth-fried) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, wine-fried) Binglang (Arecae Semen) Caoguo (Tsao-ko Fruit, flour-roasted) Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma)
Take equal parts of the above herbs. Decoct with three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), one Zao (Jujubae Fructus), and a small amount of Wumei (Mume Fructus).
This is also a formula that combines attacking pathogenic factors and tonifying deficiency. However, since the aim is to eliminate the mass associated with malaria (Nuomu), Bie Jia is used as the sovereign drug.
Shizhi (Halloysitum Rubrum) Yuyuliang (Haematitum)
Take equal parts. Pound into fragments and decoct.
When diarrhea occurs in the lower jiao, it is because the water from the small intestine does not transform and exit through the bladder. Therefore, Zhang Zhongjing gave the instruction: "If after taking this decoction, diarrhea persists, one should promote urination."
Shizhi (Halloysitum Rubrum) one jin Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) one liang Jingmi (Oryzae Fructus Glutinosa) one sheng
The disease is located in the lower jiao, characterized by deficiency-cold of the Kidney storing qi. Diarrhea with pus and blood, which does not result from transmission between meridians nor from combined heat, requires the use of astringent herbs with sweet-warm properties. This represents a modified example from Zhang Zhongjing.
Yumiku (Papaveris Pericarpium, remove pedicel, honey-fried) five fen Hezi (Chebulae Fructus, remove pit) seven fen Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed) six fen Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) five fen
Grind the above into powder. Take on an empty stomach.
Yumiku and Hezi have cold and astringent properties; therefore, Ganjiang and Jupi are used to unblock yang qi. This formula is derived from Taohua Tang.
Yumiku (Papaveris Pericarpium, remove pedicel, fried) three liang six qian Hezi (Chebulae Fructus, wrapped in flour, roasted) one liang three qian Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) two liang four qian Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen, wrapped in flour, roasted) five liang Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) eight qian Renshen (Ginseng Radix) Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, fried) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) six qian Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, fried) one liang six qian Shenggancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) one liang eight qian
Take four qian per dose.
This is also a method of incorporating warmth within astringency. By adding herbs that tonify qi and blood, it is particularly suitable for patients with chronic illness and deficient righteous qi.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma)
Take equal parts. Double the dosage of Huangqin.
This is a formula that equally tonifies qi and blood while simultaneously clearing fire. It contains no astringent herbs and is unsuitable for inclusion in the category of astringent formulas.
Muli (Ostreae Concha, crushed) Huangqi (Astragali Radix) Mahuanggen (Ephedrae Herba Caulisque Radix) one qian Fuxiaomai (Tritici Levis Fructus) one hundred grains
Decoct and take orally.
To secure the exterior and clear irritability, thereby stopping sweating, this is the correct approach.
