For males, observe the left hand; for females, observe the right hand, examining the fingerprint patterns at the tiger's mouth (the web between the thumb and index finger).
One: Wind Gate (Feng Guan) – The condition is mild and easy to treat.
Two: Qi Gate (Qi Guan) – The disease is deep-seated.
Three: Life Gate (Ming Guan) – This indicates a critical and ominous prognosis.
Symptoms and pattern positions: If the pattern extends to the Yin Gate (Wind Gate), it is an initial illness; if it extends to the Mao Gate (Qi Gate), the disease is deep; if it extends to the Chen Gate (Life Gate), it is difficult to treat.
If the pattern spans all three gates and displays five mixed colors, it is difficult to treat.

Jia-shaped pattern:
- At the Wind Gate, a cyan color resembling a fish bone indicates initial fright-wind (Jing Feng), which is easy to treat.
- At the Qi Gate, a cyan color resembling a fish bone, accompanied by malnutrition fever (Gan Lao) and body heat, is easy to treat.
- At the Life Gate, a cyan color resembling a fish bone indicates wind-pathogen invading the Spleen, which is difficult to treat.
Xuanzhen (Hanging Needle)-shaped pattern:
- At the Water Gate (Wind Gate), a cyan color resembling a hanging needle indicates water-related fright, which is easy to treat.
- At the Qi Gate, a red color resembling a hanging needle indicates accumulated heat in the Liver and Lung organs.
- At the Life Gate, this shape regardless of color represents an ominous prognosis.
Shui (Water character)-shaped pattern:
- At the Wind Gate, a pattern resembling the character "water" indicates fright-wind entering the Lungs, causing cough and flushed face.
- At the Qi Gate, a pattern resembling the character "water" indicates phlegm-fluid above the diaphragm, along with deficiency accumulation and food stagnation.
- At the Life Gate, a pattern resembling the character "water" indicates extreme fright-wind and severe malnutrition (Gan), a critical condition.
Yi-shaped pattern:
- At the Wind Gate, a pattern resembling the character "Yi" indicates Liver fright-wind, which is easy to treat.
- At the Qi Gate, a pattern resembling the character "Yi" indicates severe fright-wind.
- At the Life Gate, a pattern resembling the character "Yi" appearing cyan-black indicates chronic fright-wind, which is difficult to treat.

Qu Chong (Curved Worm)-shaped pattern:
- At the Wind Gate, a pattern resembling a curved worm indicates numerous malnutrition accumulations and痞 masses (Pi Ji).
- At the Qi Gate, a pattern resembling a curved worm indicates severe injury from accumulated filth.
- At the Life Gate, a pattern resembling a curved worm indicates Heart disease transmitting to the Liver, which is difficult to treat.
[Pattern Diagram] pyf3.bmp
Huan (Ring/Circle)-shaped pattern:
- At the Wind Gate, a ring-shaped pattern indicates Liver malnutrition disease and accumulations.
- At the Qi Gate, a ring-shaped pattern indicates malnutrition entering the Stomach with vomiting and regurgitation; this is incurable.
- At the Life Gate, a ring-shaped pattern indicates an incurable disease.
[Pattern Diagram] pyf4.bmp
If the Wind and Qi gates show chaotic/disordered patterns, it is treatable.
If the pattern extends through to the Life Gate, it is difficult to treat.
If this pattern appears on the hand, or on the face, or on either cheek, it is a sign of death (Si Hou).
[Pattern Diagram] pyf5
A pattern curving inward (hook inside) indicates Qi Malnutrition (Qi Gan).
[Pattern Diagram] pyf6
A pattern curving outward (hook outside) indicates Wind Malnutrition (Feng Gan).
A diagonal hook pointing to the right indicates Shang Han (Cold Damage), characterized by fever, anorexia, and absence of sweating. A diagonal hook pointing to the left indicates Shang Feng (Wind Injury), characterized by fever, anorexia, and presence of sweating.
[Pattern Diagram] pyf7
A double-hook foot shape indicates Shang Han (Cold Damage).
[Pattern Diagram] pyf8
Three curves resembling a long worm indicate ingestion of hard objects.
[Pattern Diagram] pyf9
Two curves resembling hooks indicate ingestion of cold objects.
[Pattern Diagram] pyf10
One end forming a ring with a "foot" indicates ingestion of cold objects.
[Pattern Diagram] pyf11
Insufficient fingerprint patterns across the three gates indicate Wind-Qi and intestinal parasite accumulation.
