Stomach Heat, Wind Pathogen, Worm Pain, Kidney Deficiency
Teeth are the essence of bones, governed by the Kidneys. The outer teeth are called "Ya" (teeth), and the inner alveolar bone is called "Chi" (gums/roots). When Kidney Qi is strong, teeth are naturally firm; when Kidney Qi declines, teeth inevitably become painful. Furthermore, the meridians of the Hand and Foot Yangming pass through the gingiva. The upper gums belong to Kun Earth and are connected by the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian, characterized by stillness. The lower gums move during chewing and are connected by the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. The Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian dislikes cold drinks and prefers heat, while the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian prefers cold drinks and dislikes heat. Their pathologies vary: some cause pain due to preference for cold and aversion to heat; some cause pain due to loose teeth; some due to exposed roots; some due to bleeding; some due to swelling; some due to wind sensation. The causes differ, and treatment depends on careful diagnosis based on clinical presentation.
