The *Mai Jue* (Pulse Resolution) states: When taking the pulse, if it is deep (*Chen*), it indicates Qi disorder; if the pulse is extremely deep, hidden (*Fu*), choppy (*Se*), or weak (*Ruo*), it is difficult to treat; if the pulse is deep and slippery (*Hua*), it indicates Phlegm-Fluid retention.
1. The Seven Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Pensiveness, Sorrow, Fear, Fright) damage Qi, leading to Qi stagnation and discomfort, resulting in epigastric fullness, obstruction, and various diseases. One must carefully investigate the cause and determine which meridian is affected. Treatment should follow the meridian principles according to whether the pathology is located superiorly or inferiorly.
2. The *Ju Fang* (Formulas of the Bureau of People's Welfare) often uses acrid, aromatic, dry, and hot herbs to treat Qi disorders. If the condition is indeed caused by cold Qi stagnation that does not dissipate, using aromatic and dry herbs is appropriate. However, if the pulse indicates Fire pathogen invasion, bitter-cold herbs must be added to assist in counteracting it.
3. To regulate Lung Qi, Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus) must be used, but excessive consumption will damage the supreme Qi in the chest.
4. To drain Liver Qi, Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) must be used, but excessive consumption will also damage True Qi.
5. Some say "there is no method for tonifying Qi," which is a secular fallacy. If the disease presents with epigastric fullness and obstruction, it may seem difficult to tonify. However, one must consider that deficiency of Righteous Qi leads to an inability to circulate and transport, allowing Pathogenic Qi to remain. Without using tonification methods, how can Qi recover?
6. Due to excessive worry and pensiveness causing disharmony among the Five Viscera, Qi stagnation in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner), chest and diaphragmatic fullness, pain, and panting, Liu Qi Yin (Flowing Qi Decoction), Fen Qi Zi Su Yin (Separating Qi Perilla Decoction), and Fen Xin Qi Yin (Separating Heart Qi Decoction) are indicated.
7. For failure of Qi ascending and descending, resulting in Lung Qi rebellious panting and chest/diaphragmatic distension, Su Zi Jiang Qi Tang (Perilla Seed Descending Qi Decoction) is indicated.
8. For irregular Qi flow, resulting in chest/diaphragmatic distension, panting and cough, and facial edema, Mu Xiang Liu Qi Yin (Costus Flowing Qi Decoction) is indicated.
9. For Qi stagnation due to the Seven Emotions causing severe colic in the heart and abdomen, Qi Qi Tang (Seven Qi Decoction) and Zhi Mi Qi Qi Tang (Pointing to Confusion Seven Qi Decoction) are indicated.
