(Zhu Danxi)
Treats various eye diseases (those belonging to Yang syndromes).
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), soaked in human milk for instillation, or decocted for instillation. Pinelliae Preparata (Piaoxiao) may also be added.
This is a medicine of the Foot-Jueyin Liver meridian. *Yanyi* states: The Heart governs blood, the Liver stores blood, and the eyes can see only when nourished by blood; essentially, water entering the meridians transforms into blood. It further states: flowing upward it becomes breast milk, flowing downward it becomes menstruation; thus, we know that breast milk is blood. Using it to instill into the eyes, how could it be inappropriate? Ang notes: Add
(Li Dongyuan)
Treats nebulae covering the pupil, resembling an obstruction by cloud-like qi.
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (2 qian, decocted in one bowl of water until half remains, then add the following herbs): Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (6 fen), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (8 fen), Prunus Armeniaca Semen (Ruren) (deprived of skin and pointed ends, ground, 3 fen). Decoct together until a drop does not disperse on water, filter the dregs, add a small amount of honey, and decoct briefly. The patient should instill with a calm mind.
This is a medicine of the Foot-Jueyin Liver meridian. Huanglian clears fire, Fangfeng disperses wind, Gancao harmonizes the middle, Danggui nourishes blood, and Ruren dispels wind-heat, benefits water generation, and enhances vision.
(Li Dongyuan)
Treats internal cataracts with nebula formation, and dilated pupils, caused by excessive mental labor and irregular diet.
Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi) (5 qian), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Guishen) (3 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Terminalia Chebula Pericarpium (Hezipi) (wrapped in wet paper and roasted, 2 qian).
Decoct in water and instill.
This is a medicine of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder and Foot-Jueyin Liver meridians. Chaihu and Mahuang release the exterior and scatter pathogens; Danggui and Shengdi cool the liver and nourish blood; Huanglian clears liver fire; Gancao harmonizes the middle jiao. Since the pupils are dilated, Hezi is added to astringe and consolidate.
Black ink from Chen. Grind thickly and instill.
Zhu Danxi said: Carbuncles and sores arise because yin and yang qi stagnate and obstruct each other. Qi is yang, blood is yin; blood circulates within the vessels, while qi circulates outside. When they move together throughout the body, if they become stagnant and obstructed,
Treats all initial carbuncles, sores, swellings, and toxic masses that have not yet resolved.
Trachelospermi Caulis (Jinyinhua) (3 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi) (peeled of white pith), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (washed in wine, 1.5 qian), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (7 fen), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (specifically the nodes), Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (Beimu), Trichosanthis Radix (Huafen) (large slices, chopped), Manis Squama (Chanshanjia) (fried with clam powder, sliced), Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina (Zaojiaoci).
Avoid sour foods and iron utensils. Sour substances have an astringent property, and most medicines avoid contact with iron.
This is a medicine of the Foot-Yangming Stomach and Foot-Jueyin Liver meridians. Jinyinhua dissipates heat and resolves toxicity, being the sacred medicine for carbuncles and sores, thus serving as the Sovereign herb; Huafen clears phlegm and descends fire, Baizhi removes dampness and expels wind, Gancao resolves toxicity and harmonizes the middle, thus serving as the Minister herbs; Xiangru promotes qi circulation and supports the interior while protecting the heart (ensuring toxic pathogens exit outward rather than attacking inward), Moyao disperses stasis, reduces swelling, and relieves pain, thus serving as the Assistant herbs; Chanshanjia is adept at penetrating and dispersing, Zaojiaoci is pungent, dispersing, and vigorous; both are principal medicines of the Jueyin and Yangming meridians, capable of penetrating collaterals and reaching the disease site directly, thereby breaking down obstructions and hardening masses, thus serving as the Guide herbs. Adding wine aims to facilitate circulation throughout the body, ensuring no pathogen remains undispersed (this medicine should be taken before ulceration occurs, before...)
