(Dongyuan)
Treats afternoon fever, aversion to wind on the back, heaviness and fatigue in the four limbs, and yellow urine; also treats fever after sweating.
[Formula Composition]: Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chi Fuling (Poria with Hostwood), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 5 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma). [Dosages for some herbs are missing in the original text].
These are medicines for the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian, Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. Yang Qi has sunk into the Yin aspect, and heat resides in the Blood aspect. Therefore, Sheng Dihuang is used to nourish the Shaoyin Kidney, while Zhi Mu and Digupi clear and drain latent fire from the blood. Chaihu raises Yang Qi to resolve the exterior (since Yang Qi has sunk into the Yin, Chaihu is used to lift the Yang out). Fuling promotes diuresis to drain dampness and clears heat concurrently. Renshen, Baizhu, and Gancao tonify Qi and assist the Spleen. When Qi is sufficient, Yang rises, and deficiency heat naturally recedes; when Spleen transportation resumes, dampness is also eliminated. (The formula is named "Dampness-Removing," but its treatment focus is on reducing fever, aiming to expel heat along with dampness... [text cuts off here]).
Treats bone-steaming consumptive fever (Fire flares upward causing water depletion, true Yin is consumed and exhausted, thus there is a steaming heat sensation between the muscle and bone. Li Dongyuan stated: Fever during the day and quietness at night indicates... [text cuts off here] lack of Yin...).
[Formula Composition]: Yinchaihu (Stellariae Radix), Huhuanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma variant or similar bitter cold herb), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, prepared with child's urine), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Qinghao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried)... [text cuts off here].
These are medicines for the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. The bitter-cold nature of Digupi, Huanglian, and Zhi Mu can eliminate heat in the Yin aspect and pacify it internally; Chaihu, Qinghao... [text cuts off here] guides... (From *Waitai Miyao*)
Treats consumptive bone-steaming fever, slight emaciation of the four limbs, sweating, and a long pulse (Consumptive fever syndromes do not all belong to Yin deficiency; there are also cases where Yang pathogenic factors enter the interior and transform into bone... [text cuts off here] Gypsum. Grind into fine powder. Every evening, take one cun-bi (a measure roughly equivalent to a coin-sized scoop) with newly drawn well water, until the fever subsides.
This is a medicine for the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. Gypsum is greatly cold and heavy in substance, capable of entering the interior to descend fire; it is pungent in taste and light in aroma, capable of penetrating the exterior to resolve the muscle layer; although cold, it is sweet in taste, capable of moderating the Spleen and benefiting Qi; for cases of fire-induced consumptive conditions with excess heat, this herb is indispensable. It is recorded in *Waitai Miyao* and *Mingyi Lu* (Xuanzhu states: The Five Elements and Six Qi... [text cuts off here] Meridian... [text cuts off here] regarding... [text cuts off here] 《...
