Treats wind-stroke during pregnancy, characterized by sudden collapse due to surging phlegm-saliva, upward deviation of the eyes, locked jaw, and opisthotonos (body bent backward like a bow). This condition is named Zi Xian (Eclampsia of Pregnancy). Yin governs stillness, while Yang governs movement. Wind is a Yang pathogen. All wind diseases causing dizziness and tremors belong to Liver Wood; therefore, symptoms such as convulsions, dizziness with fainting, and opisthotonos occur.
Antelope Horn (cut into flakes, 1 qian) Duhuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, stir-fried) Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) Yiren (Coicis Semen, 0.5 qian) Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.25 qian). Decoct with fresh ginger. Another version includes Wujia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex).
This formula acts on the Foot Jueyin (Liver) channel. The acrid-cool nature of Antelope Horn pacifies Liver Fire; the acrid-warm nature of Fangfeng and Duhuo disperses Wind pathogens; Fushen and Suanzaoren calm the Spirit; Danggui and Chuanxiong invigorate Blood; Xingren and Muxiang promote Qi flow; Yiren and Gancao harmonize the Spleen (Strengthening Earth suppresses Wood, hence Yiren also treats tendon tension).
(From Yan's *Ji Sheng Fang*)
Treats disharmony of fetal Qi, where Qi rushes upward to the chest and abdomen, causing abdominal fullness, headache, and pain in the heart, abdomen, lower back, and hypochondrium. This condition is named Zi Xuan (Hyperemesis of Pregnancy / Distension of the Fetus) (caused by excess Qi in the Lower Jiao and flourishing Ministerial Fire lifting the fetus).
Su Ye (Perillae Folium, 1 qian) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 0.7 qian) Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) Renshen (Ginseng Radix) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium, 0.5 qian) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.2 qian). Decoct with fresh ginger; take on an empty stomach. If there is heart or abdominal pain, add Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Yanshusuo (Cyperi Rhizoma).
This formula acts on the Hand and Foot Taiyin (Lung and Spleen) channels and the Foot Jueyin (Liver) channel. Chen Laizhang stated: Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Shaoyao harmonize Blood; Su Ye, Chenpi, and Dafupi regulate Qi. When Qi flows smoothly and Blood is harmonized, the fetus becomes secure.
(From Chen Jingchu)
Treats Zi Qi (In women, the Chong and Ren vessels are originally affected by Blood-Wind; during pregnancy, this leads to swelling of the feet, asthma and chest oppression, difficulty eating, and in severe cases, yellow fluid oozing from the toes. The disease name is Zi Qi).
Tianxian Teng (Caulis Aristolochiae Manshuriensis, i.e., Qingmuxiang Teng, lightly stir-fried) Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, stir-fried) Wuyao (Linderæ Radix) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted), equal parts. Decoct with three leaves of Zisu (Perillae Folium).
This formula acts on the Hand and Foot Taiyin (Lung and Spleen) channels. The bitter-warm nature of Tianxian Teng unblocks Qi and invigorates Blood, resolving Wind-Pathogens in the Blood; the acrid-warm nature of Xiangfu, Wuyao, and Chenpi moves Qi and regulates the middle.
