Treats women with metrorrhagia (continuous uterine bleeding), or persistent bleeding after a miscarriage, or uterine bleeding accompanied by abdominal pain during pregnancy known as Bao Zu Lou (abdominal obstruction with leakage). "Lou" refers to menstruation occurring during pregnancy due to insufficient Yang energy causing irregular menstrual flow.
Ingredients: Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Licorice Root (Gancao) (2 liang each), Mugwort Leaf (Ai Ye), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (3 liang each), White Peony Root (Shaoyao) (4 liang), Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Dihuang/Gan Di Huang) (dosage not specified in original formula; add fresh ginger for decoction). Yan Shi used this formula to treat restless fetus, metrorrhagia, and internal bleeding caused by traumatic injuries affecting the meridians.
These are herbs belonging to the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) nourishes the blood; Ejiao tonifies Yin; Ai Ye warms and tonifies Yang; Gancao harmonizes; and the action of wine promotes circulation. This ensures blood can circulate within the meridians to nourish the fetus, thereby preventing metrorrhagia.
Another prescription: 1 jin of Ejiao, stir-fried with clam powder, plus several sprigs of Ai Ye. It is also called Jiao Ai Tang. *Liang Fang* records it treats restless fetus with lower back and abdominal pain; or fetal Qi rushing upward to the heart accompanied by bleeding and abdominal pain. The *Zhi Mi Fang* adds Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) to this formula. (Note: When a woman conceives for one month, the embryo resembles a dewdrop. This is the stage where Taiji moves to generate Yang. Heaven generates Water One, Earth generates Fire Two. This phase is governed by the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. If there is vomiting, reflux, and food aversion, it is called Ezu (morning sickness), which clearly indicates pregnancy. Specific cravings for certain foods indicate deficiency in specific Zang organs; for example, craving sour foods indicates Liver Meridian deficiency failing to nourish the fetus. By the third month, the embryo resembles clear mucus; the nose and genital organs form first, distinguishing male and female. This stage is governed by the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Sanhuo (Ministerial Fire), and the fetus is most prone to movement. By the fourth month, it begins to receive Jing (Essence) from water to form blood vessels; the physical form is complete, and hands and feet develop in order. This stage is governed by the Hand-Shaoyang Triple Energizer Meridian.)

Treats convulsions (Eryu) and restless fetus. (Convulsions refer to spasmodic twitching of the limbs. Heat belongs to Yang, Wind is active/moving; this pathology involves Liver Wind and Ministerial Fire.)
Ingredients: Uncaria Hook (Gouteng), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Poria (Fushen), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) (1 qian), Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) (1.5 qian), Taxillus Branch (Sangjisheng) (0.5 fen). Add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) if there is Wind-Heat. Add Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma Praeparatum), and Zhuli (Bambusa Textilis Sap) if there is Wind-Phlegm. Add Quanxie (Scorpio) and Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus) if Wind is predominant.
These are herbs of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Gouteng is sweet and cold, clearing Heart heat and dispersing Liver Wind; Chaihu and Jiegeng are acrid and cool; Huangqin and Zhizhi are bitter and cold, clearing heat and purging fire to calm the fetus.
