Bathing while exposed to wind leads to Brain Wind (Naofeng) and Gout Wind (Tongfeng); drinking alcohol while facing the wind leads to Wine Wind (Jiufeng) and Leaking Wind (Loufeng); sweating from labor or heatstroke while exposed to wind leads to Wind Strike (Zhongfeng) and Summerheat Wind (Shufeng).
Internal injury (People only know of external cold invasion, but are unaware of internal cold injury, mistakenly classifying it as Yin Syndrome [Yin Zheng], which is incorrect. Cold foods should not be consumed in excess, not just after sexual activity. Zhou Yangjun stated: Sexual exhaustion does not necessarily cause Yang Syndromes; headache and fever are examples of Yang Syndromes, but one must not lightly use cooling herbs. If warm herbs are used simply because of prior sexual activity, many people have died. Wang Ang notes: No medical texts have previously elucidated this point, and most contemporary physicians are unaware of it. Zhou’s discussion contributes significantly to this understanding.) Exposing the head and walking barefoot early in the morning leads to body heat and headache; seeking coolness in shady rooms leads to body heat and aversion to cold; consuming excessive amounts of cold water and fruits leads to diarrhea, dysentery, and abdominal pain.
Sitting or lying on damp ground leads to Bi Syndrome with cold limbs (Bi Jue) and Leprosy Wind (Lifeng); braving wind and rain leads to heavy and painful body; wearing wet clothes leads to numbness and jaundice; wading through water against one’s will leads to Hong Kong Foot (Xianggangjiao, referring to gouty arthritis or beriberi) and spasmodic bi syndrome; bathing while hungry leads to vexing pain in bone joints; sweating and then encountering dampness leads to acne and prickly heat (Cuo refers to boils; pronunciation...).
The *Neijing* states: If food intake doubles, the intestines and stomach are injured; changes caused by rich and sweet foods can generate large Ding sores; diseases arising from rich and sweet foods include Xiao Bi, Wei, and Jue; eating until overly full causes sinews and vessels to relax, leading to hemorrhoids in the large intestine; irregular diet damages the intestines and stomach, initially presenting as Heat Zhong (Re Zhong), and eventually transmitting to Cold Zhong (Han Zhong). Do not eat after angering, do not anger after eating, and do not drink cold liquids when drunk (cold qi entering the Kidney Meridian causes swelling and pain in the waist and legs); do not lie down immediately after a full meal. Excessive drinking injures the Zang-Fu organs: the Lungs develop phlegm and cough due to it; the Spleen develops fatigue due to it; the Stomach develops vomiting due to it; the Heart develops confusion and mania due to it; the Liver develops irritability due to it; the Gallbladder develops fearlessness/forgetfulness due to it; the Kidneys develop essence depletion due to it; the Bladder develops red urine due to it; the Large and Small Intestines develop diarrhea due to it; severely, it leads to chronic cough with blood loss, Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome), Huang Dan (Jaundice), hemorrhoids and fistulas, and Yong Ju (abscesses).
