Huangqin (Coptidis Rhizoma, two liang) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed with decoction; may be used if the pulse is choppy) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, remove the rhizome head) Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, each one liang) Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix; because Lung Qi is prosperous in autumn, acrid-warm herbs are used to drain Lung pathogenic factors) Baishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba. Why use Renshen, Baizhu, and Baishao Yao when Lung Qi is prosperous in autumn, thereby tonifying the already prosperous Lung? This is because Spleen-Stomach deficiency allows the Lung to easily receive pathogens; thus, tonifying according to the season facilitates efficacy.) Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, each five qian) Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, four qian, do not remove the white pith) Fuling (Poria, do not use if urination is free and there is no thirst) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, do not use if there is no strangury) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, each three qian) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, two qian). The above ingredients are coarsely crushed. Take three qian per dose, add three zhan of water, five slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and two dates (Jujubae Fructus). Decoct until one zhan remains, strain, and take warm. Administer after breakfast and before lunch. Gradually increase the dose up to five qian. If urination becomes free but the disease worsens after taking the medicine, diuresis is inappropriate; reduce the dosage of Fuling and Zexie. If the patient has an appetite, avoid overeating on the first or second day to prevent further injury to Stomach Qi, as the medicinal force is still shallow and Stomach Qi cannot transport and ascend properly. Consume food with mild flavors, or delicious food to assist the medicinal force, promoting ascending-floating Qi and nourishing Stomach Qi. Avoid bland food that damages medicinal force and aids the descending-sinking of pathogens. Engage in slight physical activity to facilitate the transport and ascent of the Stomach and medicine; avoid excessive labor that might injure Qi again. Rest for the Spleen-Stomach is especially beneficial. If Stomach Qi is slightly strong, consume small amounts of fruits to assist the power of grains and medicine. The Classics state: "The five grains are for nourishment, and the five fruits are for assistance." (After finishing the medicine, avoid talking for one or two shichen, and avoid alcohol, damp noodles, strong spices, and foods that are cold, hot, cold-natured, or diuretic.)
Chishao (Red Paeonia Root, one liang) Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, three liang) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, each five qian). Make into honey pills. Take thirty pills on an empty stomach with Wumei Tang (Mume Fruit Decoction).
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, half jin) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, each three liang) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, half sheng, washed) Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, twenty pieces). The above seven ingredients, cook with ten dou of water until six sheng remain. Strain and decoct again until three sheng remain. Take one sheng warm, three times a day.
