Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Mudan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) (each 0.5 qian), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (1 qian), Baishao Yao (White Peony Root) (1.5 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (0.7 qian), Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Danggui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (each 0.3 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.2 qian). Add four large bowls of water, decoct until one bowl remains, take slightly warm on an empty stomach.
(This formula is Siwu Tang [Four Substances Decoction] with doubled Niuxi [Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix].)
Hupo (Amber, powdered, 1 qian), Zhenzhu (Pearl, powdered, 0.5 qian), Zhusha (Cinnabar, powdered, 0.5 qian), Huashi (Talcum, levigated, 6 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root, powdered, 1 qian). Take 3 qian per dose, using whole Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, remove coarse bark, select yellow ones), decoct in water to make a soup for mixing and taking the powder. (If there is heat and dysuria, use Daochi San [Guiding Out Red Powder] plus Niuxi [Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix] and Yujin [Curcumae Radix] to clear it. If constipation occurs, use Bazheng San [Eight Rectifying Powder] plus Niuxi [Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix] and Yujin [Curcumae Radix] to purge it; after purgation, continue taking this formula for efficacy.)
Shuizhi (Leech, 20 pieces), Mengchong (Blister Beetle, 25 pieces), Taoren (Peach Kernel, 20 pieces, remove skin and tips), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 3 liang). The above four ingredients are pounded into pills, divided into four pills. Boil one pill in one sheng of water, obtain seven ge to take. At this time, bloody stool should be passed; if not, continue taking consecutively.
Dahuang (from Sichuan, with brocade-like patterns, remove skin and black heart, 4 liang), Mangxiao (Mirabilitum, 1 liang, if a milder effect is desired, substitute with Xuanmingfen [Refined Mirabilitum]), Danggui Wei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Tail), Taoren (bran-fried until yellow, remove skin and tips, separately ground into paste, 60 kernels), Sheng Di Huang (Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama, fried with蛤粉 [Arcae Shell Powder], each 1 liang), Gui (Cassiae Ramulus or Cinnamomi Cortex, 3 qian or 5 qian). Grind all into extremely fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of wutong seeds. For blood stasis in the upper jiao, make pills the size of mustard seeds; before sleep, lie supine without a pillow, swallow with saliva to let the medicine stay under the throat, searching and eliminating stasis above the diaphragm. For middle jiao, take long after meals; for lower jiao, take on an empty stomach; both use wutong-sized pills, taken with decoction of Bailao Water. Using Danggui and Di Huang is to purge blood without damaging blood, and to guide other medicines to the blood level. All these drugs are fierce and harsh, but here we want to use a mild formulation to moderate them. If the blood stasis is old and stubborn, and this medicine cannot move it, remove Danggui and Di Huang, add Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma, soaked in vinegar through and through, baked dry, 1 liang) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 7 qian).
