Patients suffering from *nu kuang* (anger-induced mania), (characterized by excessive anger and manic behavior, specifically cursing without distinction between relatives and strangers,) are afflicted by Yang pathogenic factors. The body's Yang Qi, due to sudden frustration and inability to resolve the obstruction, becomes prone to anger; this condition is named *Yang Jue* (Yang Rebelliousness). (Yang Qi should be smooth and unobstructed; if suddenly suppressed, the will cannot be expressed. If matters are difficult to resolve, Yang Qi is constrained and rebels upward, leading to anger and mania, hence the name *Yang Jue*.) The Yangming channel typically exhibits pulsation, whereas the Juyang (Taiyang) and Shaoyang channels do not. If a non-pulsating channel begins to pulse, especially with a rapid and forceful beat, this is a sign of the disease. (The "typically pulsating" refers to acupoints such as Xiaguan, Dicang, Daying, Renying, Qichong, and Chongyang, where pulses are constantly palpable. The "non-pulsating" refers to Weizhong and Kunlun for Taiyang, and Tinghui and Xuanzhong for Shaoyang, where pulses are faint or barely perceptible. If these normally quiet areas show strong, rapid pulsation, it indicates that the already active Yangming pulses are even more pronounced. This is the clinical manifestation of *Yang Jue* and anger-induced mania.) Restricting food intake can cure it. Since food enters the Yin aspect and generates Qi in the Yang aspect, restricting diet resolves the condition. (Reducing food intake weakens Qi; thus, by depriving the patient of food, one prevents Stomach Fire from further assisting the Yang pathogen, allowing *Yang Jue* and mania to subside.) Administer Shengtie Luo (Iron Filings Decoction) for the patient to drink. Shengtie Luo has a rapid descending effect on rebellious Qi. (Shengtie Luo refers to iron filings hammered from a furnace, soaked in water and ground into a liquid. It belongs to Metal, is cold and heavy in nature, and is most effective at suppressing heat, resolving stagnation, and balancing Water and Fire pathogens. Therefore, it descends rebellious Qi and eliminates mania. Other metallic substances like Tie Jing, Tie Hua Fen, Zhen Sha, or Iron Rust Water function on similar principles.)
In epilepsy (*Dian Ji*), if the pulse is large, surging, and slippery, the condition will likely resolve spontaneously after a long duration. If the pulse is small, firm, and rapid, it indicates a fatal prognosis that is untreatable. (A large, surging, and slippery pulse is a Yang pulse, indicating excess Yang and abundant Qi, suggesting eventual spontaneous recovery. A small, firm, and rapid pulse indicates the True Organ Pulse of the Liver, showing a complete loss of harmonious Qi and Stomach Qi, leading to death.) Thus, it is said: regarding the pulse of epilepsy, a deficient pulse indicates treatability, while an excess pulse indicates fatality. (Deficiency implies softness and slowness with weak pathogenic factors, favoring survival; excess implies wiriness and urgency with strong pathogenic factors, leading to death.) Why does some person have epilepsy since birth? (This asks about individuals born with epilepsy before exposure to external pathogens.) This disease is named *Tai Bing* (Fetal Disease), acquired when the fetus was in the womb. If the mother suffered a great fright during pregnancy, Qi would rebel upward and fail to descend, causing Essence and Qi to congregate, thereby inducing epilepsy in the child. (Fright causes Qi to become chaotic and rebellious, rising instead of descending. As Qi becomes chaotic, Essence follows suit, affecting the fetus and causing epilepsy.)
