A person was bitten by a venomous snake and, after a long time, fell into a coma. An old monk mixed two qian of medicine with wine and administered it orally, whereupon the patient regained consciousness. The dregs of the medicine were then applied to the bite site, and after some time, another two qian were administered orally, eliminating all suffering. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that the medicine consisted of one liang of Trogopterus Dung (Wulingzhi) and half a liang of Realgar (Xionghuang), ground into powder. For anyone poisoned by snake venom, this remedy is invariably effective (from *Bencao Yan Yi*).
The Nanhai region has many snakes, particularly in Guangzhou Prefecture. A certain Vice Minister, serving as a military governor, heard that Realgar (Xionghuang) could suppress this poison. He purchased several hundred liang of Realgar, stored them in separate silk bags, and hung them in the four corners of his bedroom. After more than a month, black fluid dripped from above outside the bedstead, smelling foul and musky. Upon inspection of the ceiling, a giant python was found lying dead and rotting on top. It was over ten chi long and as thick as a pillar. Several dozen others were found nearby, coiled into nests. Hundreds of snakes driven out from other rooms were also collected. From then on, the official residence became free of snakes (from *Lei Bian*).
In cases of snake bites or insect stings where no medicine is immediately available, mix one bowl of Indigofera tinctoria Juice (Dalan Zhi) with two qian of Realgar Powder (Xionghuang Mo). Apply the mixture to the wound and have the patient sip it slowly; the effect is miraculous. If Indigo plant juice is unavailable, substitute with Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai) derived from Isatis root.
Before going out, take an amount of Realgar (Xionghuang) the size of a tung nut seed and burn it over a high fire until smoke rises. Use the smoke to fumigate the feet, straw sandals, and sleeves. This prevents harm from various poisons and keeps evil influences at a distance (from *Ji Yan Fang*, same source).
Zhang Shao, a military officer in Western Zhejiang, was bitten by an earthworm. His condition resembled Hansen's disease (Feng Da), resulting in the loss of eyebrows and beard. Every night, the earthworms would make noises on his body. A monk instructed him to soak his body in strong salt water several times, which cured him.
For spider bites, apply Realgar Powder (Xionghuang Mo) to the affected area (from *Chao Ye Qian Zai*).
For injuries caused by cats, grind fresh Mentha Haplocalyx (Bohe) and apply the juice to the wound (from *Bai Yi Xuan Fang*).
For horse bites, apply ash from burned whip tips to the wound, likely utilizing the principle of mutual suppression.
For centipede bites, place one spider on the bite site; the spider will ingest the venom and die, but pain may persist. Replace with a live spider if necessary (attributed to Sun Simiao).
Zhao Yanxi stated: For severe snake bites, apply snake skin to the wound and perform moxibustion on top of the skin to draw out the toxic qi, thereby stopping the pain.
For bites from "Bi Jing" (a type of venomous insect), rub Rhubarb (Dahuang) with vinegar and apply to the wound.
Bites from "Bi Jing" are fatal; treat with Alum (Baifan) (from *Tai Ping Guang Ji*: boil Mulberry Branch Ash Lye three times, use the liquid to mix with Alum to form a paste, apply to the sore for healing; also treats snake venom).
When silkworms bite humans, the toxin enters the flesh; apply juice from Ramie (Zhu) to the wound. It is known that if ramie plants are near silkworms, the silkworms fail to develop (from *Bencao*).
