Yellow coating with red indicates Small Intestine heat. Thick, wet yellow coating with a cyan-purple center indicates Yin syndrome. Yellow coating with gray indicates Stomach heat. Yellow coating with black is critical. External contraction complicated by internal injury for five to six days, with dry yellow coating in the center and moist on both sides, indicates Interior heat (not severe). Full tongue with dry yellow-black coating indicates extreme Interior heat; urgent moistening is required. Yellow tongue color indicates Blood deficiency.
Red tongue indicates Summerheat syndrome. Extremely red tongue indicates Warm toxicity. Red tongue with white indicates Cold pathogen.
