Xionghuang (Realgar), Lili (Veratrum nigrum), Dansha (Cinnabar), Fanshi (Alumen, one variant reads Alumen), Badou (Crotonis Fructus), Bajiao Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata with eight angles) (each two liang).
The above six herbs: first pound the Badou (Crotonis Fructus) three thousand times, then add Fanshi (Alumen) and pound another three thousand times, then add Lili (Veratrum nigrum) and pound three thousand times, then add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) and pound three thousand times, finally pound all together five hundred times. Add a small amount of honey to prevent the medicinal powder from flying. The preparation should be conducted on an auspicious day and hour designated by the King Phase (Wang Xiang), preferably performed by a young boy after fasting and purification. It should be done on a clear, sunny day without clouds or mist, completing the medicine during daylight hours. Seal it tightly in a container to prevent leakage of qi, and store it in a clean place. Adults take pills the size of small beans. To purge pathogenic factors, do not eat the night before, and take two pills at dawn. If ineffective, drink rice gruel broth to induce purgation. If purgation does not stop, drink cold water to halt it. For diseases located above the diaphragm, vomiting occurs; for diseases below the diaphragm, diarrhea occurs; or simply belching may suffice for recovery. To gradually eliminate disease, or when preparing to take medicine to resolve illness, take three pills the size of hemp seeds. In cases of sudden attack by evil miasma leading to unconsciousness, mix two pills with wine or hot soup, forcibly open the mouth, and pour into the throat. For Guizhu disease (a contagious chronic wasting disease) of various unnamed types, take two pills with Jiangshui (fermented grain water), twice daily.
The conditions treated by Yuhu Wan (Jade Pot Pill) are recorded as follows:
Men and women having sexual intercourse with ghosts, singing and crying unpredictably. Worms in the abdomen attempting to drill out through the hypochondrium, causing acute severe pain that stops and starts intermittently. Sorrow and indignation causing Qi stagnation in the chest and heart, accompanied by continuous belching and coughing, with stabbing pain in the chest. Severe pain in the heart and abdomen, and heat in the heart. Excessive drinking, Phlegm-Fluid retention. Various types of Hernia (Shan). Sudden rising of Qi, where Qi exits but does not enter, along with rebellious Qi rushing to the throat, and sudden accumulation in the stomach. Hard and firm nodules or masses. Cold and heat accumulation causing obstruction. Inability to digest meat, hard and distended abdomen. Three types of intestinal parasites in the abdomen. Severe dysentery. Sudden Guan-Ge syndrome (obstruction of upper and lower orifices), inability to urinate or defecate, suffering to the point of death. Malaria, whether already manifested or not. Sudden Huoluan (cholera-like disorder) with heart and abdominal pain, irritability, fullness, vomiting and diarrhea, and cold extremities. Alternating chills and fever. Shanghan (Cold Damage) with a choppy pulse, and Shiqi Rebing (Seasonal Warm Disease). Profuse sweating, emaciation, and soreness and pain in all joints. Sudden wind-induced swelling of the head. Carbuncles, ulcers, acne, boils, Luoli (scrofula), and impending fistulas. Shulou (scrofulous abscesses). Poisoning from water toxins. Toothache. Deafness with pus and blood discharge, and sudden deafness. Wind causing redness or itching of the eyes, blurred vision, tearing, and ulcerated eyelids. Gu poison (witchcraft poisoning), hematemesis, and stabbing sensation inside the abdomen. Poisoning from snakes, vipers, and other toxins; bites from dogs or mad horses. Postpartum residual disorders in women, amenorrhea, and irregular menstrual cycles. Women suffering from stagnant Qi in the chest, difficult breathing, hardness and urgency in the lower abdomen, and colicky pain around the umbilicus. Hundred diseases in children, including Jingxian (convulsions), obstruction, and heat. Children's large abdomen, internal heat and toxic pathogens, indigestion, forming accumulations. Children's chills and fever, headache, body heat, and vomiting. Children's emaciation and Dingxi syndrome (severe malnutrition in children) with inability to eat or digest food. To inquire about filial piety, visit patients (take this pill first and tie it to the head). Tying Yuhu Wan (Jade Pot Pill) to the head repels a hundred ghosts. When staying alone in mountains, marshes, tombs, temples, shrines, or dense forests, burn one pill, and a hundred ghosts will flee. Mix one pill with wax to the size of a bullet, place it in a crimson pouch, and tie it to the arm; men on the left, women on the right; mountain spirits and ghosts will fear it.
