One treatise, thirteen prescriptions.
The treatise states: Whenever there is "Ehe" (a sudden onset of hard nodules), the symptoms resemble those caused by "Shegong" (a mythical poisonous insect said to shoot sand). Initially, the location is indefinite, and it often causes a dull pain; sometimes there is no pain. If there is no pain, one will not worry; if one does not worry, treatment will be delayed; if treatment is delayed, it can lead to death. Therefore, early prevention is advisable. It is particularly taboo to consume beef, chicken, pork, fish, donkey meat, or horse meat. Initially, the nodule is like a millet grain or a hemp seed, located deep within the muscle tissue, hard, and grows very rapidly. Initially, there are often aversion to cold, followed shortly by shortness of breath. Take five he of Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu), grind into powder, mix with one sheng of water, squeeze out the juice, and take it all at once. Apply the dregs to the affected area. After a while, take this juice again to disperse the toxic qi so that it does not enter the abdomen; if the toxic qi enters the abdomen, it will cause disaster. Be extremely cautious.
In the Jiangnan region, for "Ehe" caused by toxic qi, or acute swelling and ulceration caused by Shegong poison, use the Wuxiang San (Five-Aromatic Powder) prescription:
Jiaxiang (Steleocassis Shell), Xunliu Xiang (Olibanum/Rue), Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Lingyangjiao (Saiga Antelope Horn), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, prepared), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Wutou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each four liang), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) (three fen).
Grind the above fourteen ingredients into powder and sieve. For injuries from Shegong poison or other toxins, take one fangcunbi (a square-inch measure) of the powder with water, three times a day. Mix the powder with egg white and apply to the swollen area; change when dry. Also, wash the swollen area with a small amount of powder mixed with water. (It is suspected that one "Xiang" ingredient is missing.)
Prescription for treating Shegong Ehe and sudden severe toxicity:
Yege (Caulis Clematidis Armandii), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, peeled), Wutou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) (each five fen), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Dansha (Cinnabaris), Yinyu (Epimedii Herba) (each one liang), Xionghuang (Realgar), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhi Zhu (Daphnes Genkwa Flos) (each two liang).
Grind the above ten ingredients into powder. Fry in ten jin of unadulterated lard oil using the method of "three up and three down" (boiling and cooling cycles). Remove the dregs, add powdered Dansha and Xionghuang, and stir until it solidifies. Rub a date-pit-sized amount onto the affected area. Do not let it near the eyes. When preparing any ointment, ensure that livestock, women, and children do not see it.
Prescription for treating generalized edema:
Dazimaizi (Cannabis Fructus, steamed, five sheng), Chixiaodou (Vigna angularis, three sheng), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, three liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, one liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, one liang).
First, pound the Cannabis Fructus until cooked. Boil the Cannabis Fructus in three dou of water, obtain one dou and three sheng of liquid, remove the dregs, add the other herbs and beans, and boil together to obtain four sheng of liquid. Remove the dregs. Consume the beans and drink the decoction.
Prescription for treating severe toxic swelling, invasion of the scrotum, or unilateral urgent painful spasms pulling into the lower abdomen, which can be fatal within one night:
Take Huixiangcao (Foeniculum Vulgare), pound to extract juice, drink one sheng, three to four times a day. Apply the dregs thinly to the swollen area. This is a foreign prescription, highly effective, used since the Yongjia era, with miraculous life-saving effects.
Prescription for wind-lao toxic swelling, painful spasms, or pain pulling into the lower abdomen and waist/hips:
Take one sheng of Tao Ren (Persicae Semen), remove the tips, skins, and double-kernel seeds. Stir-fry until black smoke appears. Grind while hot until it resembles fat. Mix well with three sheng of good wine. Take once, cover to induce sweating. Repeat no more than two or three times, and the disease will heal.
If swelling starts from the feet and moves upward, gradually entering the abdomen causing death:
Take one dou of Chixiaodou, boil in three dou of water until soft. Remove the beans and soak the knees and below in the bean juice once a day. It will heal in a few days. If the toxin has already entered the abdomen, do not soak the knees. Simply boil and eat the beans. Abstain from all salted vegetables, rice, and flour foods. Eat only beans. Drink bean juice when thirsty. Stop when healed.
Dazimaizi Chixiaodou Tang (Hemp Seed and Adzuki Bean Decoction): Mainly treats toxic swelling with indefinite location, feeling of astringency and aversion to cold, or stabbing pain and restlessness in the heart and abdomen. This is due to heavy and deep-seated toxic qi.
Dazimaizi (stir-fried, five sheng), Chixiaodou (five sheng), Sheng Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix, two sheng, thinly sliced), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, four liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, three liang), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, three liang).
Boil the six ingredients in four dou of water, reduce to two dou and five sheng, remove dregs, and crush the Hemp Seeds. Use the Hemp Seed juice to cook the beans until very soft. Remove dregs to obtain six or seven sheng. Take one sheng per dose, finish within one day and night. Mild diarrhea indicates the removal of toxin and reduction of swelling. Eating the beans along with food is beneficial, acting as quickly as snow melting in hot water. When using Hemp Seeds, do not use moldy ones; select good quality ones.
Prescription for treating carbuncles:
Gou Nianzhu (also known as Longkai/Solanum nigrum), extract juice and apply externally to draw out the root. In winter, use dried material soaked in water to extract juice.
Another prescription:
Burn Xier (Xanthii Fructus) to ash, mix with vinegar and starch from rice washing water to make a paste. Seal the affected area. Reapply as needed. Stop only when the root is drawn out.
Another prescription:
Apply dirt/grease from black cattle to seal the area.
Another prescription:
Scrape the "Ru" (bamboo shoot skin/residue) from bamboo arrows to make moxa cones. Moxibustion on the affected area for two sets of seven burns (14 moxibustions), and the swelling will subside.
Another prescription:
Powder Fuzi, mix with vinegar, and apply. Reapply when dry.
Another prescription:
Extract one he of juice from fresh Jiqi (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis) roots, filter, and apply. No more than three applications.
