[Formula Twenty-Eight]
Treating carbuncle-toxin swelling, Shengma Tuotuo Decoction:
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Loulu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) (each 2 liang), Shuobi Gen (Polygonati Multiflori Rhizoma or related root, contextually likely *Polygonatum* or similar local herb, here translated as Shuobi Root) (5 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 liang), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) (20 fruits).
The above six herbs are cut into pieces, boiled in one dou of water until reduced to seven sheng. After cooling, use for soaking or compressing the affected area; keeping it moist is optimal.
Carbuncle-toxin formula, also known as Tianhuo (Heavenly Fire), manifests as sudden redness on the skin resembling vermilion paint. The red area may be as large as a palm, or severe cases cover the whole body. Some present with pain, itching, and slight swelling.
Formula:
Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean) 2 sheng, sifted through silk, mixed with egg white and applied to the lesion. Apply repeatedly as it dries until the condition subsides. Simultaneously, administer Loulu Tang (Euphorbia Decoction) to prevent internal invasion of pathogens. The formula is as follows:
Loulu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba), Bailian (Ampelopsisis Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Baiwei (Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (stir-baked), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) (de-stemmed), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (stir-baked, each 2 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (2 liang).
The above ten herbs are cut, boiled in one dou of water until reduced to three sheng. Divide into three doses.
Treating Wuse Dan (Five-Color Carbuncle), commonly known as Youzhong (Oil Swelling). This condition is often fatal if neglected, so do not treat it lightly.
Formula:
Sleep with a sow's pillow under your head; this will cure it.
Another formula: Apply cow dung externally. Replace when dry.
Another formula: Mix egg white with ash from rush mats and apply.
Another formula: Crush hemp seeds, mix with water, and apply.
Another formula: Melt sheep fat and massage the affected area. Fat from black sheep is particularly effective.
Another formula: Take Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean) 5 he, grind into powder, mix with water, take 1 he of the juice orally, and apply the dregs to the "five centers" (both palms, both soles, and the chest).
Another formula: Use powder from Youcai (Brassica rapa var. oleifera / Rapeseed), mix with egg white, and apply. (Alternative: Drink 3 he of juice from Youcai leaves, and apply the dregs to the carbuncle.)
Another formula: Grind Ulmus root bark into powder, mix with egg white, and apply.
Another formula: Burn bitter bamboo leaves to obtain ash, mix with pig fat rendered in the twelfth lunar month, and apply. This also treats Youzhong (Oil Swelling).
Another formula: Crush Youcai (Rapeseed) and apply as a poultice; it will heal and stop spreading.
Another formula: Crush Shenhuocao (Artemisia capillaris or similar local herb, literally "Caution-Fire Herb") and apply as a poulsice; the effect is miraculous.
Another formula: Take five carp (over 5 cun long), remove scales, mix with 1 he of finely ground Cinnabar (Zhusha), pound into a paste, and apply to the lesion. Thickness should be about 3 fen. Replace when dry.
Tumor/Lump Formula:
Take meat from muntjac deer and sika deer, process into thick jerky-like slices. Heat over fire and apply/compress onto the lump. When cool, reheat and apply again. Repeat heating and changing four times. Pain and suppuration will resolve. If not cured, continue using freshly heated meat.
White Lump Formula:
Scratch and scrape the area vigorously until bound by a rope; it will heal. Alternatively, collect water from hollows in trees facing east, heat it, and wash/scrape the wound. Wash two or three times, and it will heal.
Another formula:
Huangshi (Sulfur), Fanshi (Alumen) (calcined).
Grind the above two herbs in equal parts into powder. Mix with vinegar and apply.
Mayouzhong (Spreading Numb Swelling) Formula:
Take a piece of raw cloth, dip it in oil, let it absorb oil and withdraw. Ignite it and hold the flame near the affected area. Recite the incantation: "Sun rises, wandering shameless, grease fire burns your head." Repeat seven times, and it will heal.
Baiyouzhong (White Spreading Swelling) Formula:
Pound raw sheep spleen thoroughly and apply.
Qingbai Chiyou (Green, White, Red Spreading Carbuncle) with slight pain near hands Formula:
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen), Fulonggan (Calaminis Fuligo) (each 2 liang).
Mix the above three herbs with water to form a thin porridge consistency and apply.
Treating Chiyou (Red Spreading Carbuncle):
Mix hawk droppings with water, apply two or three times, and it will heal.
Another formula: Mix ash from swallow nests with vinegar and apply, two to three times daily.
Another formula: Spray/irrigate with cold water.
Another formula:
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang), Zitan (Santalum Album Lignum) (1 liang), Chi (Fermented Soybean) (1.5 he).
Pound the above three herbs, sieve finely into powder. Mix with strong vinegar and apply.
Another formula: Pound Shenhuocao (Caution-Fire Herb) into a paste and apply; this is the most effective method.
Huoyouzhong (Fire Spreading Swelling) Formula:
Mix Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Shenhuocao (Caution-Fire Herb) into powder and apply.
Another formula: Mix 1 liang of Hufen (Lead Carbonate) with 1 he of vinegar, boil slightly, and apply.
Huoyouzhong (Fire Spreading Swelling) spreading all over the body with redness, entering the abdomen leads to death Formula:
Apply raw pork to the affected area. This is because insects and birds refuse to eat this meat due to its foul odor.
