[Four Moxibustion Methods]
In the first one or two days after onset, moxibustion should be applied to three points below the heart: The first point is one cun below the heart, named Jueqi (CV14); the second point is two cun below the heart, named Shangwan (CV13); and the third point is three cun below the heart, named Zhongwan (ST12, referred to as "Weiguan" in the text). Each point receives fifty moxa cones. However, since people vary in size, the measurement of cun may differ; therefore, a string can be used for measurement. Determining the cun distance according to the individual's height is optimal. Take a string, measure slightly from the tip of the xiphoid process (Jiutui) down to the umbilicus, fold it in half to take half the length. The end of the string marks the location of Zhongwan. Fold this segment again into two parts; measuring upward from Zhongwan by one part gives Shangwan, and measuring another part upward from there gives Jueqi. Adults may receive fifty moxa cones, while children may receive seven or two cones depending on their age, to be judged intuitively.
If the illness has persisted for three or four days or more, twenty moxa cones should first be applied above the fontanelle. Measure from the center of the nose straight up to the middle of the hairline, fold the string in half and discard half. Then, measure inward from the hairline into the scalp to the end of the string; this point is named Tianchuang. Additionally, moxa is applied to both temples (temporal region), Fengchi (GB20), and Ganshu (BL18) with one hundred cones, while other points receive twenty cones each.
Moxibustion is also applied to Taichong (LR3) with thirty cones, which yields miraculous results.
For pea-like sores (Wanrou Chuang), apply three moxa cones on the radial styloid process of both wrists; for males, use the left side, and for females, the right side.
[Eleven Moxibustion Methods]
At the edge of Chengjiang (CV24) inside the lips, near the teeth where a broken needle might be placed, treat Ma Huang (Horse Yellow) and Jaundice.
The temporal region lies between the eyebrow and the corner of the eye, with collateral vessels running up and down. This area is treated via acupuncture and moxibustion for jaundice and warm diseases. Combined with fire needle application at Renzhong (GV26), it treats Ma Huang Dan where the whole body turns yellow and speech is impaired.
Apply one hundred moxa cones at the midpoint between the nipples and the umbilicus (at the costal cartilage), treating Jaundice.
One cun on either side of Chengjiang (CV24) treats acute epidemics of Ma Huang.
Apply seven moxa cones to Taichong (LR3) (or note that acupuncture/moxibustion can be chosen flexibly).
Additionally, moxa is applied to Fengfu (GV16), Refu (a non-standard point, likely referring to a local heat-clearing point), Feishu (BL13), Xinshu (BL15), Ganshu (BL18), Pishu (BL20), and Shenshu (BL23). If males experience retraction of the genitals upward, moxibustion treats Ma Huang and Jaundice. For females, the Yumen (external genitalia) serves as the point for acupuncture and moxibustion, without fixed locations.
At the posterior border of the heel where white skin meets red skin, acupuncture and moxibustion can be chosen flexibly to treat Ma Huang and Jaundice.
Regarding the arm, have the patient grasp their own arm at the olecranon. From the Da Yuan (LU4) crease at the wrist, measure one finger-breadth (Yifu) upward to the border of the white skin, and apply seven moxa cones to treat Ma Huang and Jaundice.
For Jaundice, apply seven moxa cones to the seventh thoracic vertebra; if yellow fluid exudes, it is effective.
