Leave two portions (referring to a previous step or material). First, place three hu of vinegar-brine into a large wooden barrel, add seven sheng of wine lees, and stir. After three days, proceed with the following method, strictly following the sequence until the entire process is completed.
Take one sheng of millet, clean it thoroughly, pound it into powder. Place Aconiti Radix (Wutou, 乌头) at the bottom of the barrel to a thickness of three cun, spread it evenly. Sprinkle millet powder over it to cover uniformly, then add another layer of Aconiti Radix as before, followed by millet powder in sequence, filling the barrel until three cun from the rim. Then, remove some liquid from one side of the barrel using the lees juice, ensuring the Aconiti Radix is submerged by two cun. Cover it with a lid. If in the ninth month, wait eight or nine days; if in the tenth month, wait ten days. Observe when the scum on top of the liquid turns a uniform purple color. Remove the Aconiti Radix, scrape it open with a knife to inspect the interior. If white and yellow textures are broken, it is ripe. As long as the surface scum is purple, it is mature; do not doubt this. Take Bai Mao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma, 白茅根), sun-dry for one day until slightly withered, but not too dry. Spread five cun of thick Bai Mao Gen on the dry ground under the workshop roof. Filter out the Aconiti Radix to dry, lay it on the grass without overlapping. Cover with another five cun of thick Bai Mao Gen, seal the four sides tightly with grass. After two nights to three days, lift the grass from one side to check. If the surface has uniform mottled spots, it is good. If white spots appear, cover for another night until the condition is met. Slowly remove the upper grass, let it rest for another night, then carefully move it under the eaves, spreading it thinly on cloth without overlapping. After twenty-one days, knead it out, sun-dry for three days, and it is ready.
Another method:
Aconiti Radix (Harvest in April) Tianxiong Fuzi Cezǐ (Harvest in August)
Boil water to make a raw-and-cooked decoction. Process Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 附子) according to the previous method, place it in the decoction, seal tightly to prevent leakage. After half a chen (approx. one hour), take it out from the ash. Change the ash multiple times to ensure dryness, and sun-dry it. This method is superior to those using millet porridge or wine lees.
Method for taking salt medicine: (In regions without medicinal salt sources, this method must be used; it is highly beneficial.)
The salt well at Shangguan, Chengzhou is ranked first; followed by Fengjing Well, Mianzhou; then Fuyin Well, Yanzhou; and finally Guiping Well, Yizhou.
Salt from these four wells can be taken.
To administer the above method: Place a piece of salt the size of a soybean in the mouth, do not swallow. After a moment, when saliva fills the mouth, bring the salt close to the teeth. Use a square-inch spoon (fangcun bi) to take salt into the mouth, mix with saliva, and swallow together. Take once daily.
For new cases of malaria, one dose resulting in smooth bowel movement leads to cure; for those suffering for over a hundred days, five doses lead to cure. Taking it for one month ensures no recurrence for life.
For initial dysentery, one or two doses lead to cure; for chronic red-and-white dysentery lasting a year, seven or fourteen cycles of seven days (one to two weeks) of dosing lead to cure.
For various heart and abdominal pain, stagnation of old food, accumulation, vomiting, and indigestion, regardless of duration from one year to thirty years, taking it within three months will cure the dysentery and other diseases. Do not be surprised if diarrhea worsens initially.
For qi fullness, wheezing, inability to eat, one dose disperses the symptoms; daily administration removes the root cause. For heat-related illnesses causing headache, dizziness, and hot limbs, one dose inducing vomiting and diarrhea leads to cure.
For wind affecting the head, face, skin, and all joints, taking it for one month leads to cure. If brow tightness increases within the first ten days of initial use, do not be surprised.
For phlegm-fluid retention, coughing, wheezing, and inability to breathe or eat, one dose leads to cure.
For deficiency labor and injury, joint pain, and loss of voice during movement, take for fourteen cycles of seven days; for shortness of breath, fatigue, and pale complexion, take for ten cycles of ten days. Taking it for thirty days is ideal. Usually take on an empty stomach on regular days. The standard dose is three bi (spoonfuls). If vomiting and diarrhea are required, increase the dose by more than three bi at once to induce severe vomiting and diarrhea; this will not harm the body. If feeling feverish, drink cold water frequently. If traveling to unfamiliar regions and experiencing acclimatization issues, take one sheng immediately upon arrival to avoid all troubles. Salt tonifies deficiency, eliminates cold and heat pathogens. If undigested food transforms into cholera, one dose leads to cure.
